A little 'Did You Know?' regarding Online War Games (..& all Multiplayer Games ) and their demographics...

The online games sector is growing FOUR TIMES (4x) faster than the Internet overall.. it that mind-boggling in itself or what? But it brings two questions to my mind:

1- How?

2- Why?

I think I can answer them both.

1. When was the last time you saw an ad for Online games?

They are not advertised on TV, in newspapers, in cinemas or on billboards, yet the audience is getting bigger and bigger.�

And come to think of it, there is almost no one that is notincluded in this market. Worldwide, it is forecasted to grow from USD$5.2 billion in 2007 to over USD$13 billion in 2011...

...JUST BY WORD OF MOUTH.

And just think, it has grown as massive and as rapidly as it has WITH NO TRADITIONAL ADVERTISING! ( I don't know about you.. but, I have had online businesses and this blows my mind )

Game networks have grown due to word of mouth. Players want to play a game with a friend or the players recommending games to other players, who in turn do the same. It's viral. That's the 'how'.

2- Why. Is there a sudden flux of teenagers playing at home? Far from it. Consider this fact: the International Game Developers Association's "Casual Games Market Overview" reported that casual gamers tend to be BOTH WOMEN AND MEN between the ages of 35 and 65, with a slight demographic skew towards women.

So... people of both sexes and all ages are playing these games, around the world, in all time zones. There are currently game networks with hundreds of thousands of players playing games at any one time. There are Internet Cafe's that rely on turning a profit from Online Gaming alone!

Plus, playing games with friends and people in your social network is much more fun than playing against anonymous strangers. You have the friendly rivalry between you, and the personal relationship which we all enjoy.

But now, it's not only satisfying, fun and enjoyable: challenging friends to a game could turn you some cash.
