Yes, the OS is becoming obsolete!

After Google Docs and the realizing that online tools are making the operating system obsolete, it's time to talk about another group of web based software, The image editors and tools.

SumoPaint

SumoPaint.com

Sumo Paint is a truly "online photoshop". Any Photoshop user may feel comfortable using Sumo Paint, as they have a lot of common features: layers, effects, transparency....

Although the good stuff was left out, Sumo Paint is pretty good as a free online image editing tool, and it can get your job done if you're in a hurry and don't have photoshop around. I also felt more comfortable with Sumo Paint then with The Gimp, and it might be the end of my lack of photoshop for linux problems, since I can use it from my browser (as I said, the OS is getting obsolete).

Sumopaint was released on the 16th of June 2008, 12 days ago, and updated to version 0.11 with new features on the 26th of June 2008, 2 days ago.

Picnik

Picnik.com

Picnik is another image editing tool that promises to be fast, easy and fun.

Picnik's focus is being a photo editor, so the most notable features are one-click fixing for photos, cropping resizing and rotation, special effects, awesome fonts, and it's integrated in MySpace, Flickr, Facebook, PhotoBucket, Picasa, Freewebs and WebShots, meaning you can save your edited pictures directly to those services.

Along side the free online version, Picnik.com also offers a Premium version at $24.95 a year.

VectorMagic

VectorMagic.com

VectorMagic is a web based tool that is able to convert almost every bitmap image into a vector image.

Although the very easy to use interface, VectorMagic is different from other similar tools because of better accuracy, less noise and cleanup required, and again, it's easy to use.

They're results are better than Adobe's and Corel's vectorization tools in most of the comparisons.

Kuler

Adobe's Kuler (kuler.adobe.com)

Kuler by Adobe Labs is a great and powerful online color chooser and combinations maker. It allows you to choose your colors trough a relatively new and never-seen interface, and automatically makes color combinations for you. You may then modify those combinations to suit your needs, and if you're registered you may save your combination and share it with others.

StripeGenerator.com

StripeGenerator.com

Although they claim to be "the ultimate tool for web 2.0 designers" I personally think that a background with stripes is not enough for a good web 2.0 website, but it's a very useful tool anyways.

This online tool lets you generate your background strips with lots of possibilities, being the most notable shadows, 8 stripe orientations, and an instant preview of that you're doing.

ReflectionMaker.com

ReflectionMaker.com

Last but not least, I found this free online tool that is able to make a reflection of any image you submit, and you get to choose your background color, reflection size, and still see what you're doing in a moment. Very usefull and can save you time, comparing to all those photoshop procedures for making reflections. The bad part is that they only allow images lower than 200kb.

Got any more ?

So this are the most useful online image editing tools I've found. I'm sure that there are plenty of others out there and if you'd like to share one with us, please do.

I also thought it was fun lol.. And it's fast too because it's not running in your computer lol... But I really thought that it was so amazing that something like it could be done... Some years ago if someone told me about an "online photoshop that runs from a web server without you having to install it" then I would laugh and think that person was crazy lol...

Thanks for leaving your comment :)
