85How a Proxy Site can Protect Your Identity
Though the Internet provides us with many opportunities, it also is full of danger. One of the biggest risks that you face surfing online is that someone might steal your identity. This can result in financial losses (or ruin) and can be a very big headache that you probably want to avoid.
But how to do you protect yourself while you are away from home?
Many people take using a public computer to access email or do banking for granted. But the truth of the matter is that by doing these common tasks that you are putting yourself at risk. Since we are so used to using our home computers, we don't think of the tracks (history and cookies) that we are leaving on the public computer. In the wrong hands it could mean that your identity is stolen.
But there are ways that you can protect yourself while you are using a public computer. Some of the easiest ways would be to leave checking your private information to when you are at home. The other thing that you can do is use a proxy website to ensure that you don't leave any traces on the computer that you are using.
What is a proxy website?
A proxy website works as a go-between when you are surfing and fetches the information from the websites you want to view. If you need to login at any site, it stores the cookies on the proxy site and deletes them when you are done. This way, when you do leave the computer you are using, there will be no tracks left behind that someone could use to steal your identity.
Are they safe?
Proxy websites tend to be very secure and can help you to protect your private information while using a public or private computer. But they are not 100% safe and you need to use some common sense as well.
If someone is trying to look over your shoulder to see what you are doing, it is a good idea to try to avoid using private sites. It is also adviseable that you don't visit sites that you are not sure that they are safe much like you wouldn't walk down an alley in the middle of the night by yourself.
But with a little common sense and the services a proxy site provides, you should enjoy a safe surfing experience no matter what computer you are using.
