Free Push email from Gmail, free alternative to microsoft exchange server
72Microsoft Exchange Server has long been used to push emails to users mobile devices/PDAs, but its costly. By using Gmail's free features, you can get rid of that money eater.
1.i assume ur primary email address has POP3 access(best if IMAP supported).
2.Get a gmail account if you already don't have one!
3. Go to gmail Settings >Accounts and click "get mail from other accounts". there put down your email settings. if you are not sure, contact ur email tech support. Save settings.
4.Go to gmail Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP and enable pop and imap. save settings.
5.Go to ur mobile devices built-in email client and add gmail account. in the server settings, select IMAP is ur email server, i.e. "imap.gmail.com" should be ur incoming mail server.
6. from now on, whenever you get an email, it will be retrieved by gmail, which then will push to your cellphone. no need to use expensive microsoft Exchange Server!

Good articles
Splendid... Very good and helpful article.
Gmail doesn't yet support Push-IMAP or P-IMAP as described in the wikipedia link above, however when they do it's going to be a big plus for enterprise users!

Thanks, but even though IMAP is great, it is still not "push"... it synchronizes, which is still nice, but your phone or app still has to be set to "retreive" the messages. So if someone sends you an email, you have to wait till your phone's next auto-retreive cycle (or manually hitting "refresh") before you get it. You also can't synchronize calendars and contacts directly over the air with a google-based account.
