Each player draws a tile to determine who goes first, with the letter closest to the beginning of the alphabet going first. Seven tiles are then drawn by each player. A player may pass or forfeit their turn. They may exchange one or more tiles for the same number of tiles that are left over in the bag or they may gain points by forming a word on the board.

Words are formed from the center of the board by the first player. A player will draw more letter tiles from the bag after forming a word, in order to keep seven tiles on his rack. The rules state that the game is finished when someone plays all their tiles and all the tiles in the bag are gone or when there are six scoreless turns in succession and the score is not zero to zero. After subtracting any points on the racks the scores are tallied.
