United States of America is a country located in North America and is composed of 48 states on the continent and two additional states off site, Alaska, located in northwest Canada and the other, Hawaii, located in the Pacific Ocean. The US lies between Canada to the north and Mexico to the south in the Western Hemisphere.

The land mass includes about 3.79 million square miles and about 307 million people. The US is the third largest country by land area and population. The country is made of people from many different lands and is the result of large immigration movements for most of its history. America has the worlds largest economy at about $14.3 trillion GDP.

The country was founded on July 4, 1776 by declaring its independence from Great Britain. The country continued to grow for the next 150 years till adding Alaska and Hawaii in 1959.
