A free credit report no credit card required is something that is pretty guaranteed to you if you are willing to go that route. A free credit report no credit card required is what many providers of credit reports may advertise, but only a select few of reputable providers of credit reports follow through on. Most of the providers of free credit reports will require that you give them your credit card information before you gain access to your report. They won’t necessarily charge you any money for that report, but they may going forward by implementing what they call a rebill offer. Many times you are completely oblivious to these kinds of rebill offers and you are only made aware that you are actually being charged upon looking at your credit card statement. This is why it is essential to find a provider of free credit reports that doesn’t capture you credit card information and will only give you what you are consenting to.

Getting that Free Credit Report

Most people are aware that they should be entitled to a free credit report from all three major credit bureaus, but most individuals are confused as to where to obtain this free report. The Fair Credit Reporting Act guarantees that you can gain access to a report from all three bureaus, and this means that you don’t have to enter your credit card information when you do in fact access your report.

The free credit report industry has flourished over the past five years or so, and this has been in part to the kinds of business models that rely on taking advantage of the word free. Any company can say that they are providing a free credit report and as long as they obtain your credit card information they can charge you for products later on down the road. While this may be illegal and unethical, it is becoming a common practice within the credit report industry and to avoid this practice you need to find a provider of credit reports that doesn’t gather your credit card information.

Finding a Provider

So you are now probably wondering how you can find a provider that can allow you to access your credit report for free without asking you for your credit card information. The best authorized source that can provide you such a service is AnnualCreditReport.com, and this provider is actually recommended by the Federal Trade Commission. While this is a great provider that can give you access to your credit report for free without taking your credit card information, there is a catch to use their service. Most people automatically think that they should be given access to their credit scores from all three bureaus when they access their free credit report. The truth is that the way the Fair Credit Reporting Act was written it doesn’t mandate that consumers be able to access their credit scores that may accompany each credit report.

Gaining Access

This means that no service is obligated to grant you access to your credit scores with access to your free credit reports. AnnualCreditReport.com doesn’t make exception to this rule, and they will only give you access to your credit reports and not the correlating credit scores. This does not mean they don’t offer you credit scores if you are wiling to pay for them, and in the end it is up to you the consumer to decide on whether gaining access to your credit scores is something that you really need. In the end I think that AnnualCreditReport.com is probably the best provider of free credit reports, and if you don’t want to get scammed by providing your credit card information then AnnualCreditReport.com is for you.
