Tattoing is an art atleast 4000 years old.It was prevailing in India, China, Japan, Egypt,Srilanka, Indinesia.There were certain beliefs about tattoos in ancient times.Like-it provides god's grace, increases life span, etc. Tattoing was a painful experience for one who wished to have it.It was done by pricking needles and inserting plant extracts as colours. Usually men used to have less tattoos while women would be getting eloborately designed tattoos.Each design had a name.For eg, in india, names of some tattos were like-Krishna's craddle, saint's hair, etc.
But now such superstitions have gone. This folk art now is only a fashion.Now it is removble.There are folk poems on tattoos. Ph.D dessrtations are submitted to universities on tattoo traditions.
