Free Content for Web Pages
My first serious attempt at web page design is an ezine on which people can publish their own work. Boy, what a challenge! The first obstacle is design. Well that is easy. However content has me stumped. What can be done about content for web pages? Furthermore I wonder about where to get the content for free. The content has to be interesting, too!
Well, one alternative is to search the web for free content for web page. That is just what I do. Plus, I also asked different people if they want to publish their work on this ezine. I also put in a contact me page where they can put in a request to publish their content. The response for this is very good.
Here are the steps to go through to find and use free content on the web.
-
Decide what content you want on your web page, blog, etc.
-
Try open domain sources (You can find the sources on the web. Just put in open domain in the search with the subject area you are researching. Example: open domain nature pictures.)
-
Enter "free web page content_subject area" in the search of your browser. ( Example: free web page content_sports for sports.)
-
Have a method for people to publish different material on your website (either by form_mail, email, or other method)
-
Look at the following sites to see if there is something that could interest you as far as articles:
-
Write some of your own original material. This can be on the subject that interests you.
-
Have some kind of interaction with the public such as a way to submit comments, etc.
-
Add a forum to the site.
-
Try getting free graphics from public domain. Make sure though they are public domain.
-
Try to get written articles, etc. from public domain.
-
Ask the general public to publish whatever material you want to your site.
Be sure and do the following!
-
Get the writer's or creator's permission to publish their material on your site. (emailed permission is fine for this. It is a good idea to get the permission in writing.)
-
Copy the article without editing to your web page, blog, etc (If the author gives you permission to edit, then edit.)
-
Be sure to give the author who created the material you are using credit on your website, etc and/or the same for sites that are a collection of free articles you can use. (Many times this is included with the article. Not doing so is copyright infringement.)
-
Tell the author and the site that information, material is taken from that you are using their material. (give the time, URL and date article is added.
Just as a word of caution, be sure that if you are publishing original work submitted by the public that it is original. Also have a statement that says that anyone that can prove copy write infringement that the material is off the site immediately when attention is pointed to fact. Also be sure to put in a disclaimer about copy write material. Be sure to put in writing anyone plagiarizing is responsible for that material.
In summary, there is no limit to the amount of stuff you can find for free content on your web pages. So good luck with your hunting for free content.
