How to Video showing how to enlarge or reduce a group of clipart state, country or county PowerPoint maps from www.mapsfordesign.com or www.bjdesign.com.

To enlarge several states or counties you need to GROUP them together.

1 Hold down the Shift key and using the pointer CLICK using the right button on the PC mouse and the regular click on the Mac mouse, on the states you want to enlarge together.

2 Once the states are selected click on the DRAW popup menu in the TOOL BAR along the bottom and choose GROUP.

3 You will now see just 8 handles on your selected group. Place your pointer over one of the lower left or right corner handles. Click, and hold down the mouse button and drag the handle in a diagonal 45 degree direction. This will enlarge the group. Release your mouse button when you have the correct size. Pulling out, the group will enlarge, moving in towards the center it will reduce. Holding down the SHIFT key will keep things proportional.

World Mercator Map Projection

All Different Kinds of World Maps

There are many different kinds of maps on the market. From a free world map to one that costs a bundle. But before we get there is is good to identify the kind of map you are looking for. Maps come in what is called a projection. A projection is a way of translating a three-dimensional real surface into a two-dimensional picture like a map. The best know style of map projection is called a Mercator Projection.

The Mercator Projection is what is called a cylindrical map projection. Originally designed by the Flemish geographer and cartographer Gerardus Mercator. These go back to 1569. This the map that is usually formed in a rectangle shape. With this map the area along the equator is fairly accurate but as we move towards the poles the land masses become distorted. Some of the other popular projections are Robinson, Sinusoidal, Peters and Mollweide.

There are a lot of different kinds of projections of the world. In fact it is actually all just math and by changing the formulas you can come up with a wide variety of different projections.

Here are just few of them highlighted at Free World Map

Albers equal-area conic projection, this is a conic, or equal area map projection

Azimuthal equidistant projection, often use for polar projection where all of the distances are measured from the center of the map. This projection is used on the United Nations Flag.

Behrmann Projection, this is a cylindrical projection

Bonne projection, sometimes called a Sylvanus Projection, or an equal-area map projection.

Craig retroazimuthal projection, this was created by James Ireland Craig in 1909, a cylindrical projection and sometimes also know as the Mecca projection because is is cented on Mecca in Saudi Arabia

Just a few of them, we will cover more later here at Free World Map

thanks for the comment, Most of the map clip art products are pretty general and don't really go into degree. I think the best option for this might be to look at www.mapresources.com, they do add some degree info to their maps. After that I might look at google.
