Freedom of Expression

Expression can be made through a multitude of varying avenues. People and animals [of all walks of life], contained within their abilities the freedom of expression. Even when that freedom is suppressed by tyrannical leadership. Leadership that can be found in a mate, friend, political leader, parent or jury. Babies express their individual needs often through waling, crying, fusing, gurgling, chatter and when they are teething the smell from their poop is an expression all to itself. Small children express themselves in similar manners and mechanisms. When teenagers are mad at their parents, the freedom of expression lays wakes to form new ground and earthquakes within the household. Many parents just shrug it off and blame it on hormones. Which too, is an expression of their own unique parenting style. Animals send off all different types of messages to one another by expressing themselves. Walrus bulls sing love songs to a female it wants to mate with. Lions fight, claw and bite their mates when love is awake in the fair African air. Birds peck and screech to call a female bird to nest with them. Some birds even dance for their mate. It is a way for them to completely express their capabilities as a lover and future life long mate. Van Gogh cut off his ear as an expression of love. Many people do the strangest things when they feel a need to express themselves. People also write poetry like Robert Frost. William Shakespeare expressed himself through his dramas and comical satire. He brought forth the discovery of expressing literature emotionally through the catalyst of theatre. President Barrack Obama's motto could be heard around the world. His expressed hope and change in his campaign, touching millions of peoples lives. He freely found a way to shout to the world what most Americans were feeling. Painters like that of Picasso, Mikhail Nesterov, and Da Vinci, used their art to express their motives, religion, and life's direction. A pope, pastor, or monk express themselves through the power of prayer. In protest of something, people express themselves through companionship, marching, poster board signs and shouting. Music is a tool to expressing oneself. Musical lyrics often have direct message and meaning. Many of the notes bring out the rhythm of what the artist was feeling at that point and time. Even dancing is an expression of willingness, carefree nature, togetherness, lust or love.

So does the freedom of expression mean to you?

Great information - freedom of expression is a two edged sword, dependent on who's on the other end.  Most people appreciate the freedom to express themselves but often times reject others freedom, particularly when it opposes their viewpoint.  I think people are too sensitive these days.

So what does freedom of expression mean to me?  Well, I appreciate the opportunity to express my viewpoints on hub in hope that people understand that's it's just a personal opinion.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi jxb7076! Thanks so much for stopping by. I really appreciate your comment and feedback. I've read several of your hubs and I think you are an impressive writer.

I like it when people are allowed a chance to express their opinion. They are always welcomed in my corner.

Hey, RK... You somewhat beat me to the punch here, :) (oh, well--my article will be more constitution/rights/explanatory, anyway). Did you see my own little tiff with Misha? I'd just seen what he was doing to you (and others) once too often. Guess they think they are 'monitoring.' Good job opening up something I think needs to be discussed on Hubpages.

No Lita, I didn't.  What happened?  You know I don't understand Misha.  I don't understand why he has such a high hub score.  He has written only 16 hubs in the last two years.  I don't get that.  All he does is harass people who aren't in his fan club.  He flirts and rambles, yet he has a higher score than most of the hubbers whom really work on hubs.  I don't get that.  I don't.  And then what I really don't understand is how he gets by with the way he behaves.  But I would love to hear what happened.  Thanks for stopping by Lita.  I would love to read your hub on this subject.  I hope you continue to write it.

Well, I just noticed it got so bad, a couple topics were shut down, sooo....sigh:

Yeah, I don't understand the hubscore, either, really. It doesn't seem to relect seriousness, but then, some people are not here for that, and that's OK, too. He needs to leave those who are 'serious' or political or what have you, be, though. He probably isn't happy with me, after that--but what can you do?

Another great article! I'm impressed. =)

My thoughts on "freedom of expression" is....I may not like it, I may not agree with it, I may not want to watch or listen or look at it...but I believe in your right to do it. As long as it harms no one physically. 'cause mental scars build character ;) (<--sarcasm!)

Great stuff RKHenry and so much the need of the hour. For me, freedom of expression would be to live and let live, without that freedom degenerating into license.

LOL Shalini Kagal! I can sometimes agree with the let live senerio, until a bad soul crosses my way. I'm young and I'm trying to learn to just let dead dogs lie. But sometimes, it is very hard for me to not express myself. Thanks for stopping by! I greatly appreciate the feedback.

Lita, I just opened the thread back up by the way. Thank you for being a person with GREAT personal integrity!

Ahhhh RKH - comes with age - though even today, I will speak out against deception.

When I was young I would have done exactly what you do :D

Excellent way of looking at this topic RK. Love the photos and so many good points you make. Points that don't merely encompase humankind and political issues.

To me, freedom of expression means to be able to feel things with all my senses and then to release those feelings and thoughts about those feelings without repression and without repressing.

Great hub and lovely pix. As someone said- your freedom ends where my nose begins.

Freedom ends when it begins to encroach upon the rights of others

To understand Misha's hub scores, check his comments count.  He drops one sentence comments everywhere.

A lot of good points, RK.

FABULOUS!!!  Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this a rewarding hub!  I loved what each of you had to say.

Quilligrapher, you know I never thought of that about Misha's score.  dianacharles, great perspective on the encroaching of an other person's rights, John my man- you're welcome to express yourself anytime.  Having a bad, need someone to rant too, I'm here.  My comment section is all yours.  Feline Prophet, I love your avatar.  I liked what you said marching to your beat, in cadence with an odd ball drummer.  I like that you go with the flow, but still..........  nothing is gettin pass you.  Frieda- when I get over loaded, I'll shout for a release.  It feels so right.  Like in that Rocky movie.  Looking down them steps, looking back to what you've accomplish and allowing that happiness, thrill, excitement to release itself out is terrific.  GeneriqueMedia, I got your email last night.  I'll email you back soon.  Thanks for the heads up and I'll be checking out that stuff.  Thanks again for your help!!

Thanks again everyone, I'm so thrilled you all commented and stopped by! Rolan

Some people write only a few hubs, but they have picked a good niche to write about and will get good traffic. Other people can write a hundred hubs and not get as much traffic. It all depends on the key words you are using and if you are promoting your writing. The search engines will find you, but if you do not have your own website to promote your writing, or if you are not social networking you cannot get the backlinks needed to get your hubs higher in the search engines.

You are one of the most *interesting* people on Hubpages. I can't emphasize the word right. Emphasis on "ing." There are some very interested (emphasis on "ed") people here, with a lot of variety in the things that catch their fancy, but it seems as though everything that interests you is a passion.

I wonder though how you chose your college major -- I find myself more and more interested in history, so that's not my "point." It just seems as though it would be hard to narrow it down!

Freedom of Expression enables me to be a leader and express whatever I feel on paper and to others. I am a leader not a follower therefore I will always strive to be heard in a strong, cordial way.:)
