Freelance and web content writing - Learning where to write - Part 1: Helium and AssociatedContent
70Practically every alternative person browsing the Internet nowadays is already a writer or a potential writer looking for opportunities to unfurl his hitherto hidden writing talents! Internet is now an ever-growing storehouse of useful information, useless information, news, non-sense, facts, fiction and filth. Thanks to the burgeoning success of Google’s Adword context sensitive advertising and the Adsense program of sharing the advertise revenue with webpage owners, there has been an explosive growth in the demand for written material in the web-world.
So, we have blogging sites, web-content publishing and sharing sites, web-magazines and so on which welcome writers with both hands (at times with both legs too!) luring them to write on their sites and offering them “great earning opportunities”.
Many people with or without writing talents, with or without good command in English language get lured by these sites and join them hoping that they will rake in dollars sooner or later by virtue of their writing virtuosity. While some succeed, many get disillusioned either to drop away or to ditch one site and try their luck in another!
The mistake many of such people do is not going deep into the terms and conditions of each site, the qualifications, capabilities and commitments demanded and the “fine prints” in the Terms of Agreement. Result? Disillusionment and whining. Some people even go to the extreme of labeling genuine sites as scams and start mudslinging exercise.
This article is meant to guide such of those writers who are either looking for new avenues of earning or looking for switch over from one avenue to another, to know the minimum basics of 2 popular sites: Helium.com and AssociatedContent.com

Hello, Hello,
Sorry for what happened to you. But that does not make Helium a bad site. For every disillusioned writer at Helium, there are hundreds of happy writers who vouch by Helium.
As I normally go deep into the discussion forums of every site where I wrire, I have noticed one thing:
- There are plenty of people who are extremely happy about the specific site where they write (in AC, Suite101, Hubpages, Helium....)
- There are people who say no other site is better (again based on their limited experience or loyalty)
- There are people who say some other site is also good (based on their experience)
- There are people who get disgruntled with the site and call the site useless or a scam!
The world has place for all sorts of tastes and opinions!

Hi, Rajan - you right - people loose their interest in writing for the web if the money are slow to come. Unless you are a professional you can not expect to have any significant payment. But I red few hubs that claim it is possible to earn money if you : work hard (like a full time job maybe?), learn how to find ideas and keywords for your post (researching maybe on Google), learn all the tricks with backlinks and other stuff I'm not familiar with.
Hi Hello, Hello
I, too, wrote for Helium. I did not make any money but I'm planning to. You have to keep your rating stars by rating articles all the time.
Also, you don't earn empty title $1 bonus if you have NO writing star. So, there's 2 things to consider:
1:keeping your rating stars - the more, the better(for me is easy to rate, I do it 2 times a week and I usualy enjoy it and learn new things)
2:have at least 1 writing star (you have to write under titles that have at list 4 to 5 articles already writen and be in the first 2).
I think Helium is hard to earn money unless you put a lot of time and effort.
Thanks for the good information!
Great info here. . .can't wait to read the rest of the series. I did a few articles for Helium but I didn't care for it.

Hello, hello, says:

I wrote for helium 12 articles which required a lot of research. I also read that you get paid out $3 minimum plus $1 if you are the first writer on that title. I had one star of rating. When I checked up in my account I had $0.36 and when I questioned it in a email I was told I had it all wrong. When I checked back my one star of rating was taken off. Then I also read that you do not get paid unless you have a rating star??????? Very nice company!!!!
I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. On my hub about them I had comments from other writers who also had disappointments and one of them is quite a successful writer.
