This Sunday May 10, 2009 will once again be mothers day. I was thinking about this recently and the more I think about mom, the more I realize that I never really tell her how much I love her. We should all tell our mothers as often as possible not just on mothers day how much we love them. In fact, we should send them fresh cut flowers much more often than just on mothers day.

I did a little digging into what exactly mothers day was all about. Well not really what it's about but where did it come from and why. Here is the USA we love any excuse for a holiday, especially if we get a day off from work. No such luck for most on Sundays.

Fast forwarding a bit, things started to get on track here in the USA around Civil War time, and then became much more prevalent during the early 1900's. Is Mothers Day a religious holiday? Even though there are some questions regarding it's past history and celebration ties to the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, I can tell you that from my own Jewish point of view that this is not a religious and certainly not a Christian holiday. After all, every religion in the world honors their mothers in one way or another, so it is my personal belief that this is a wonderful holiday to honor our mothers who are often neglected in our thoughts. We should in fact honor our mothers every day.
