Frizzy hair can be a major headache, especially if everything you do can't seem to solve your problem.

Frizzy hair can be a big problem especially for those with curly hair. Many times, frizziness is the reason why we can never seem to get the hair style we dream of! Why does hair frizz up, you ask? There are a few reasons. First, some women are born with naturally frizzy hair. This is one of the toughest cases of frizz to solve. For some, frizzy hair is a result of coarse hair and the lack of moisture. When hair becomes dry, the cuticles become rough which then causes the frizz. Also, our humid weather can be the reason why many of us suffer from a case of bad frizzy hair. And finally, overuse of styling products as well as rough handling will result in frizzy hair.

Seems like so many things can contribute to frizzy hair but are there just as many solutions? You bet there is. Thankfully, with the right care and products, you can put an end to frizzy hair.

Enough Moisture, Enough Care

The best solution for frizzy hair is to properly care for your tresses. Give it the right conditioning as well as enough moisture to prevent hair from becoming dry and frizzy. When washing hair, make sure you use a conditioner that is suitable for your hair type. Rinse the conditioner out completely; leaving residue behind can cause frizziness especially in our humid weather.

Also, make sure you are gentle when handling hair. The last thing you want is to be rough; breaking hair cuticles resulting in frizzy hair. Be gentle when styling or combing. When drying hair, use a towel but do not rub. Instead gently squeeze the excess moisture. If you want to use a blow dryer, be sure to use a nozzle on your dryer to direct the heat down the hair shaft. Use a round natural bristle brush while drying to prevent frizz.

Pick the Right Do

One of the best ways to prevent frizzy hair is to make sure you get the right hair cut to minimize the frizz factor. First of all, don't go for any short cuts as these will only accentuate the frizz. Avoid a blunt cut too as it will add on the unnecessary volume to your hair. Stay away from excessive layers as this will only make your hair appear frizzier. The cut is to grow your hair long so that it becomes more defined and less frizzy with the weight. Got a bad case of frizzy hair? Then pull your hair up into a bun to keep the frizziness at bay.

Use the Right Products

Like all hair types, using the right styling and care products for your frizzy hair can help with the situation. To calm down frizzy hair, style your hair with silicone-based products to tame down the frizz. There are so many great de-frizz products out there like creams, serums and gel. Just choose the one you are most comfortable with and use as directed. Apply evenly on hair to make sure you cover all bases. Also, be careful not to apply too much as this can only make your hair look greasy, dirty and in some case, frizz up even more!

Once or twice a week, apply a hair mask to condition and nourish hair, especially if your hair is dry and dehydrated. Look for a moisturizing hair mask to give your hair the nutrients it needs. Apply generously on hair, concentrating on the ends. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse off thoroughly.

Make sure you steer clear from products that contain alcohol. This can dry your hair out even more and cause an even intense case of frizzy hair! Whenever possible, choose products with natural ingredients as well as vitamin E, aloe vera and panthenol.

Top remedies for frizzy hair

Some great ideas on what you can do for your frizzy hair.

1. Avoid coloring or perming your hair, as the chemicals will react to cause your hair to frizz up even more.

2. Use warm water when shampooing your hair. Warm water opens the hair cuticles, allowing conditioner to be absorbed more and straight to your hair shaft. When rinsing out the conditioner, use cool water to close your hair cuticles, preventing the frizz.

3. Once hair is toweled dry, use a wide-toothed comb to go through your hair but do not comb hair while it is dripping wet. For best results, use your fingers to get rid of knots and tangles.

4. Don't wash your hair too many times in a day; this will result in more frizzes! Let your natural oil improve the texture of your hair.

5. A home remedy you can try? Massage coconut oil or olive oil into your hair and scalp to help increase blood circulation. Don't overdo it though; you don't want to end up looking greasy!

6. Want instant shine? Apply a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. Use that to rinse your hair!

7. Get your hair trimmed regularly to prevent split ends and breakage. A good hair cut can tone down the frizz level.
