Frogmore Stew Recipe

Did you know that the name Frogmore Stew comes from the name of a fishing community on St Helena Island near Beaufort South Carolina. And while shrimp is the usual main ingredient in a frogmore stew blue crabs are often added if available. Crayfish also often find their way into frogmore stew.

You can make your frogmore stew with packets of crab boil seasoning and you can add as much ground cayenne pepper as you and your family or guests like. If you do include blue crabs be sure to have pliers or crab crackers on the table so your family and guests will have no trouble getting the crab out of the shell.

And here is one of my favorite recipes for Frogmore Stew. I don't include the blue crabs or crayfish but if they are available in your area feel free to add them to your stew.

For Your Recipe You Will Need.

1. 2 Packages Zatarain’s Crab Boil

2. 1/3 Cup Old Bay Seasoning.

3. 3 Pounds New Red Potatoes.

4. 3 Pounds Hot Smoked Sausage Cut Into 2 Inch Pieces.

5. 24 Small Pieces Corn On The Cob.

6. 6 Pound Peeled And Deveined Large Shrimp.

You will need a large pot to cook your frogmore stew in. You want it large enough to hold all your ingredients and you want to fill the pot with water after you have placed all your ingredients into the pot. Cook until your potatoes and shrimp are done and then you want to drain away the water. Serve each person a large helping of the frogmore stew and you want to have plenty of melted butter and cocktail sauce on the table.
