NetBooks to SmartBooks Transition
64Technology keeps on rising. Especially in the PC Industry, its quite faster. From Desktops, now all are in fan of netbooks. Considering the small size and less weight. Next generation of computers are Netbooks and Smartbooks. I don’t know what it is about these fancy names that we have all come to love. Netbooks, nettops, and now smartbooks. Smartbooks are a new category of computers that are supposedly cheaper, lighter, and even more connected than netbooks.
Desktops -> Notebooks -> Netbooks -> SMARTBOOKS.
Now Lets take a look what leads to Smartbooks instead of Netbooks.
Netbooks are lower-end laptop-like computers that run on Windows or Linux operating systems and have limited hardware capabilities, including screens of about 10.2 inches in width. Many netbooks currently on the market use Intel's Atom processor and Windows XP Home edition, or they use a Linux-based OS. Netbooks will also be able to run Microsoft's newest OS, Windows 7.
Computer Internet Devices, in contrast, are mobile computer devices sometimes known as "smartbooks," a term coined by Qualcomm, which makes the Snapdragon chipset for mobile 3G devices. Snapdragon incorporates an ARM processor in the chipset and uses open source Linux-based operating systems, not Windows.
What makes a smartbook different from the Netbooks being sold by companies like Dell and Hewlett-Packard?
Netbooks use an Intel Atom processor and, typically, Microsoft's Windows XP operating system. Smartbooks will use processors based on an ARM design and the Linux operating system. And 3G connectivity will be standard--like a typical smartphone
Windows is designed for x86- and x64-based devices. So far, the Windows and Intel combination has dominated the netbooks scene. CIDs(Computer Internet Devices), in contrast, may be based on processors designed initially for the mobile operator space, such as ARM, which features lower power consumption and a smaller form factor compared with Intel's Atom chipset.
ARM processors currently support Linux-based OSes for netbooks, including ThunderSoft, Ubuntu and Xandros operating systems. They also support Google's Android OS for mobile devices.
What makes Smartbooks better than the existing cellphones and MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices)?
Smartbooks will give you a very powerful smartphone in your hand and will come with both voice and data capabilities. Unlike netbooks and MIDs, the smartbooks can remain connected all the time. No need of shutting your device down or putting your device into hibernation. All that will all day battery-life and integrated GPS.
Also, we are happy to know that smartbooks will cost less than the existing netbooks. This indicates that the Smartbooks should cost less than $400. If they are able to do that, it will be a huge hit among the consumers.

What's bigger than a smart phone and smaller than a notebook? That's the description of a smartbook.
Nokia plans to sell both, the Netbook and the Smartbook through wireless service carriers that currently sell Nokia phones.
For the uninitiated, Nokia is not new to the computer business. In the eighties the Finnish giant used to sell a personal computer known as MikroMikko. It sold the business to International Computers Limited (ICL) in 1991. Also, Nokia used to manufacture computer monitors in the nineties. It sold the monitor making business to ViewSonic, a leading monitor manufacturer, in 2000.
Some SmartBooks
Check out this Smartbooks. Amazing one. I am fascinated by concepts because it’s good to know that someone will design something that you will like to have in the future.
It’s more than a laptop as the designer, Roland Cernat, calls it a mobility computing device that with a multi-functional design as it allows you to rearrange its parts however you want to in order to fit your style.
Thanks to its electrochromatic glass, you can use the both sides of the monitor and the side that it’s not used will remain darkened. Check out the pictures and tell us if you would like to have a SmartBook!
Will smartbooks make it big in the market? Do they stand a chance against smartphones, like Nokia N97 and HTC Touch Pro2, which have a laptop-like features? Moreover, consumers are familiar with devices which use Intel processors and the Windows OS.
Hence, will the toe out of the line in these aspects, work for smartbooks? We have to wait till this Fall and see who will dominate the market ? Is it Netbooks or SmartBooks !!

Yeah Gypsy Willow,
We have to wait till this Fall for Smartbooks release.
I love my 17" laptop, the new smart and net books must be looking at a more specialized market. It's always fun to see what's next.

I think the smartphone will evolve into a smartbook, but in the end we need a combination of laptop, computer and mobile phone like iPhone.
Yeah Perfect. Next evolution could be this. laptop+Mobile :)
