Onion Domes of Russia

When I think of Russia, the big onion domes of St.Petersburg come to my mind. In addition to that the severe winter, Karl Marx and of course the tennis vixens Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova also flash on my mental screen. As an avid art lover I enjoy some amazing Russian arts (some of the street painters are incredible, how do they do that?). But, this story about an art couple blew me away completely. Their true love story is so fascinating; it makes the Hollywood love stories look like a kiddies afternoon play in a swimming pool. Real life story is more dramatic than the fiction. Read on the true love story of Michael and Inessa Garmash.

I lay my heart on your toes

Michael’s artistic talents were discovered at a tender age of three. He was enrolled in an art school and showed promises of a great artist. He graduated with excellent credentials at the age of 18. And then enrolled in the army for a couple of years. During his stint in the army, Michael returned to his former school on a two-week vacation. The last day of his visit he met Inessa at a bus station and fell in love with her at first sight. Then, he did what an obsessed artist would do. He spent the night painting Inessa’s picture all around the city surrounding her house-on the road, on the walls of buildings and the walls of her apartment staircase. Michael was arrested first by the city police, but he was released later. Inessa noticed his steadfast love and eventually married him.

The best part of the story is below. Please continue reading…

Several years after their marriage, Michael began a painting of their daughter for a project at school. However, their two-year old found the painting during his absence and painted her own version of the subject. Inessa, not wanting Michael to be upset, fixed the painting, packed it up and gave it to him to submit. Michael handed the painting over for review and was told it was his best work ever. He was surprised to see the "new" painting and immediately recognized his wife's hand. Now, the couple paint together and are widely recognized. Get enchanted by many of their works right here
