Frontline PLUS for Cats is the best selling cat flea treatment with Amazon.com. I'm still trying to find the perfect cat flea medicine for my furry friend, so I thought I'd see what the top selling product has to offer. Why is it so damn popular? What does it treat, how do you use it and is it right for my Naruto Cat?

Frontline Plus is the best selling cats flea treatment with Amazon. So why do so many people use the product? Perhaps surprisingly not all cat flea treatment products are the same. They target different stages of the cat flea's life cycle and destroy different additional parasitic pests. Some are based on relatively old insecticide technologies while other's use much more gentle chemicals developed only recently.

Frontline Plus is a topical once a month spot on treatment. This means it is applied to your cat, by simply placing a small ampule of oil directly onto the skin. The insecticide is carried through your cats sebaceous glands to cover its whole body with flea killer within 24 hours. Using an oil based carrier to apply the insecticide means the product is waterproof though it is advised that your cat is not bathed for 48 hours after applying the flea treatment.

As you would expect, Frontline Plus kills fleas. With cat flea problems on the increase it is extremely important not to allow your pet to become over-run with these dirty parasites. In fact this treatment kills adults, eggs and larvae which is quite unusual. This means the ability of flea eggs and larvae to remain inactive waiting perhaps months to restart a flea infestation is dealt with properly. Many older style cat flea treatments, including shampoos, sprays and collars tended only to kill the adult fleas. So the fleas would often re-infest your cat and home relatively easily as all the dormant eggs and larvae in the environment were still viable.

The product is guaranteed to last at least a month. The manufacturers recommend a cat is treated every month. However many cats will remain flea-free for up to six weeks. If you use this product and your cat is not hyper-sensitive to fleas it is worth extending the period between treatments to see if you can save a little money.

As well as killing most of the fleas on your cat and in your home, Frontline Plus kills ticks too. Ticks harbour many serious illnesses and are generally just horrible creatures to find on your pet or in your home. Anyone living in an area which contains ticks should definitely be treating their pets for these parasites.

For us, finding an effective tick killer is just as important as treating for fleas. Throughout the year, except for the three months of cold winter, ticks are very common in our locality. With a cat who loves to roam, sometimes for days on end, finding a good tick treatment has been critical. If ticks are removed within 24 hours of attaching the risk of passing on disease is much removed. But, we don't always see our cat every 24 hours and ticks are notoriously difficult to spot, until they have been attached for some time and are engorged with blood.

Frontline remains active against all stages of ticks for at least one month. Any ticks who come into contact with your cat start to die immediately but due to their tough nature may still attach (albeit rather lazily) to your pet but will be unable to feed properly. Within 24 hours any tick will die and drop off your pet.
