How Much Will It Really Save.. The Math

Consider that when full, a bottle of Dial Complete in the 7.5 ounce size has about 186 pumps in it. One person washing their hands 3 times a day using one pump and it will last you about 2 months. Or, 2 people will use it in 1 month. The math equals out to 2.4 cents per pump to use the foam soap dispenser.

A Family of 4 people who are washing their hands 3 times a day, every day would go through a bottle of foam soap in about 2 weeks. A bottle of 7.5 ounce Dial Complete costs approximently $4.00 depending where you buy it.

Here is where the fun comes in. A bottle of the 7.5 ounce regular Dial antibacterial soap costs about $3.00. To refill your Dial Complete foam soap dispenser you will need 1.5 ounces of soap or 3 tablespoons. Thats 5 refills using one regular 7.5 ounce bottle of regular Dial antibacterial or $.60 cents per refill. Buying a cheaper brand of regular liquid soap will save you even more. Pick up a botle of Soft Soap or Suave Hand Soap on sale for $1 and pay just$.20 per refill.

If you are paying just a quarter per refill with your foam soap dispenser, an entire family of 4 can wash there hands 3 times a day for just 2 cents a day give or or take a few tenths of a cent. Who can't handle 2 cents for a days use of foam soap?

Two Pennies a Day!!

Using 3 tablespoons of regular hand soap in your foam soap dispenser can costs as little as 2 pennies a day for a family of 4 if they are washing their hands 3 times a day.

Other Foam Soap Pump Dispensers

You don't just have to buy the Dial Complete foam soap dispensers. Pampered Chef and some other brands have soap foam pumps that work just as well. Pampered Chef was the original foam soap dispenser. Bath and body works also have some great foam soap dispensers that can be refilled and reused.

Look above !! for some great alternatives to the Dial soap dispensers. These are sold at Ebay and generally in lots of 3 or more. A great savings so that you can have them in the bathrooms, kitchen and in the camper.

Don't Forget The Dishes

You don't need to just limit yourself to foam hand soap. Take a tip from Dawn's Direct Foam and make a bottle up of foam dishwashing soap. Bring it into the shower and use it with body wash for a foamy wash.

I've gotta try this. Right now, I just use cheap dishwashing soap, watered down by 1/3, with a little coconut oil added.

Do you find that you have to keep shaking up the bottle for use or does the solution stay mixed once made?

Nope no shaking neccesary :)

You can actually just pour in the regular soap, add the water, stick the top back on and walk away. When you come back the soap will have seperated and mixed with the water. No need to fuss with it after that until its refill time. :)

WOW : ) Will this work with antibacterial soaps that have beads or moisturizing hand soaps that are thicker?

I have never tried using those. I think that beaded soaps (like bath and body works) will clog up the foam dispenser. and the creme soaps may work if the are diluted enough. but truly, thats just my thought and I have no real experience to base it on :)

Hmmm, you might be right about the beads. If I ever try it, I'll let you know how it turns out.

This is great! I'm definitely going to try this. I have two preschoolers, and I find that, for whatever reason, the foaming hand soap seems easier (and more fun) for them to use. And they use a lot of it!

Thanks for the info :-)

thanks!!

If your preschoolers are into foam.. spray foaming shaving cream on a table(glass or other that would be safe for this, no wood). We used to clean the tables after painting using this when i worked in a daycare. The kids could make swirlys and other designs in the shaving cr.eam and it cleaned the table while they were playing.

While I think this is an interesting idea, has anyone considered the sanitary concerns of making your own foaming soap? More often than not tap water is not as clean/germ-free as we think so I would suggest using distilled water. Also, most soaps have only enough preservatives in them for their designed usage. When you dilute the soap you're diluting the preservatives, which means that the soap could easly become contaminated and you could be doing more harm than good by using. Just somethings to keep in mind.

I love this foam soap idea - and i'm not worried about the preservatives because I use Shaklee's Hand Wash Concentrate. The was it comes, you use it in a pump bottle that only dispenses about a "pea"-sized amount of soap...which is plenty for this product! But...putting it in the foam bottle using a 1:8 ratio gives a nice, luxurious foam, wonderful juniper scent, and no preservative worries.

I have used foamers that are used for example after finishing my Dial Handwash or Dawn Dishwashing Foamer and I find that not long later my foamer quits working. The foamer becomes hard to push. I am using Dawn Dishwashing liquid and I am diluting more than what your recipe states and still I am having problems, any suggestions, please?
