Frugal Living Tip - Unplug It
73For those looking to live more frugally reducing household bills is an important step. In today's modern world many of us have dozens of electronic gadgets that we leave plugged in all day. Cell phone chargers, microwaves, and DVD players are just some of the devices that use electricity even when they are not running. This can raise your electric bill more than it should be. Unplugging some of the unnecessary electronics can slice off some of your monthly electric bill.
Go through your house and see what things you leave plugged in constantly. Some electronics such as refrigerators and clocks need constant electricity to run. But there are many more things that only need to be powered when you are using them. Look for things that you do not use often or only at certain times. Some people leave coffee pots, microwaves, and toasters plugged in all day even though they are not using them. The same way that you turn off a light when you leave a room you should also be unplugging your electronics when you turn them off.
There are also some electronics that many people use far too often. Cutting out the television time, or just removing it completely, will save your brain as well as saving some dollars from the electric bill. Turning off the air conditioning during the summer months is another way to reduce your electric bill. Electric fans use far less energy to run and can focus on a specific area rather than trying to cool an entire house. To save even more money find other ways to stay cool such as visiting the public pool. Plant trees that will grow into shade trees and make sure that your home is properly insulated to help keep your house cool without running the air conditioner. You should also be shutting down your computer when you are not using it. If you need to keep it running shutting down the monitor will still save your electricity costs.
Another way to save your electricity costs is to use non-electric options. Hanging your laundry out to dry instead of using your dryer will lower your electricity bill. Use hand tool instead of power tools, and unplug the power tools you have. Skip using your hot water heater and use cold water instead will also save you money. You can wash your hands, wash your clothes, wash fruits and vegetables, and rinse off dishes with cold water. The less hot water you use the less your hot water heater will have to heat up.
Reducing your bills is a good first step towards living more frugally. Turning things off and unplugging your many electronic devices around your home will help save you money. Even better is that you may begin to notice that some of the electronics you used to use you will not miss at all.
