Electronic Gadget, Gizmo, Or Service Not Working?

Have you ever had a bad experience with Tech Support? Then you know how frustrating the experience can be. It seems that at one time or another in our lives one of our electronic gadgets or gizmos goes haywire. It could be your computer, your cell phone, or just some service such as cable. You have two options you can replace the broken with a new one, or you can call tech support and try to fix it. Good luck with option number two.

Good Customer Service and Helpful Technicians

There was a time that companies cared about quality instead of quantity. A day when the top companies thought that good customer service and helpful technicians were the solid foundation of a successful company. Not in today's world my friend. Now, the main concern seems to be, cheap, and foreign. Welcome to the wonderful world of outsourcing.

No Speak Very Good English

I had the misfortune of having to deal with an outsourced tech support person for my cell phone. It was so frustrating, I could not understand a word she was saying, because I speak English and she spoke very bad broken English. If I did figure out the words she was trying hard (but not too hard) to say, I soon found that she was reading off of a script and was giving me the run around. I really did not enjoy being put on hold every two minutes for a five to ten minute wait, while she was probably laughing her butt off, knowing that she had no clue how to fix my cell phone issue.

Frustrating and Funny

I have learned that it is very frustrating to personally experience an outsourced tech support person. Although, I have found that it can be funny to listen to other people's frustrating experience's. I recently spoke to my sister who had to deal with an outsourced tech support person for her computer, she was on the phone for over two hours and still did not get the issue resolved!

Easier To Buy New?

Maybe these companies hire these tech support people from other countries on purpose. I was thinking not only can they pay these people cheaper wages, but if the customers of these products can not understand what these foreign people are saying, then the customers really have no way to fix their products, and maybe they will just go out and purchase a new one. Does that sound crazy? I was tempted to almost buy a new cell phone. I felt it was probably much easier to buy a new one, than to go through all the frustration of trying to figure out what the outsourced tech support person was babbling about.

I have found three funny videos about today's tech support for your enjoyment.

The first funny video contains a lot of swearing, which I do not usually condone, but under the circumstances can certainly understand the frustration.

To be fair to all tech support people, I have included this funny video to show us just what it is like for them to deal with non-technical customers.

Finally, I have chosen this funny video to show us the humor in it all, and if you can't beat them, you may as well join them. Although, I know it is not always easy to keep our sense of humor and laugh things off, especially if one of our electronics is not working properly. I have found that there is a solution for everything.

Before You Leave A Comment

I always enjoy comments and thoughts, but please try to remember that I am not personally attacking a company, person, or country. I wrote this article based on my own personal experiences, and stories from other peoples experiences.

I have to give any complaint in which I have to call a service center to my wife because I would rather just smash the damn thing all together than be put on hold and have to deal with an automated machine for the first twenty questions then get a live person and get transferred and then inconveniently disconnected.

LOL, I think I talked to that first guy! Yes, tech support is a nightmare and we are probably better off buying new...but hope springs eternal doesn't it?

Hey GT, glad to see you. Where have you been hiding lately? I know what you are talking about my friend. Thanks for mentioning the automated machine, I forgot to add that the automated machine always comes first before you even talk to a support person. Remember the good ole days, when we called the 1-800 number and actually got to talk to the support person right away? Yep, gone are those good ole days. Really glad to see you GT. Thanks for visiting and commenting.

Hey K@ri, Thanks for visiting and your support. LOL, I agree hope springs eternal. I always try to give it one more try at fixing it. Although, I have not had much luck with Tech Support lately, I seem to always find my answer when I tell someone else my tech support story and that person I am telling my story to seems to know how to fix it. Strange and ironic but true :-) Good to see you K@ri and thanks for your comment.

I worked for a BPO but I chose not to do calls. These are all funny and so true. But I must admit that I've heard stories too from the trenches - yes the tech support agents' and their tales of woes and crazy stories about their customers. At least, humor chooses no sides. :D

Even when you submit a ticket online, very rarely does the agent bother to understand the query properly before responding.

Hey Cris A, Thanks for visiting and sharing. One of my favorite things about this crazy life is that "humor chooses no sides." The best part of all of this is that I have been applying for work at home tech support, so I guess these could be considered training videos. :-)

Hey Quicksand, great to see you my friend. I have missed you! Isn't it weird how Customer Support has really changed. I guess the company's are so desperate to get cheaper help that they really don't give a ship anymore, how their customer's are being handled. I don't even bother submitting online tickets anymore. I got tired of waiting for them to even answer the simple questions. It's good to see ya Quicksand, thanks for stopping by and your support. :-)

I once had to apologize to the tech guy I was speaking to because my Spanish wasn't good enough to follow what he was trying to say in English, if that makes any sense. Probably not. Oh well. Funny hub.

Hi FP, great to see you. Sorry to hear that you could not connect, You might not have missed much. Glad you enjoyed the videos. :-)

Hi Teresa, I can certainly understand what you are saying. I have been challenged when trying to communicate with someone who speaks very little english. When I look back, I have to laugh, because it must have been very funny to people listening to me trying to communicate. Thanks for visiting and the compliment.

"Would you like the, 'I'll transfer you' disconnect, or the abrupt disconnect?"

I am actually somewhat in the biz of tech support. It get's pretty funny and frustrating from this side, too! :0)

Great to see you Tom, LOL, I always enjoy the, I will transfer you disconnect, that way I can pretend that it was nothing personal. :-)

I have had some wonderful tech support when dealing with English speaking Tech support in the past. I guess I would be not so accommodating if I was making pennies on the dollar doing the same job as someone making $20 an hour. :-)

I bet you have some pretty funny stories you could tell us about as a person on the other side. :-) I admit it doesn't seem funny when the situation is happening to you, but can be very laughable listening to the story from another person. Thanks for visiting and your comments.

lol - loved it! Even when it is not outsourced - its annoying. Then its just someone who speaks English giving you the runaround.

Nowadays, before I buy a big product (e.g. large kitchen appliances) I make sure to get it from a smaller supplier that actually has real people who know what they are talking about. I pay a bit more initially, but it is much nicer in the long-term.

Still there are some areas - like my broadband - where I essentially have no options. :-/

Hi Shibashake, Always wonderful to see my favorite purebred drop by for a visit. I am glad you enjoyed. You are spot on about the english speaking techs as well. I have not had any issues with them, but I have heard many not so good stories from friends and family. You are very smart shopping local and small. I think it is worth it!

I was just thinking about doing that myself. I think you save money in the long run if it needs to be repaired. Thanks so much for visiting and your wonderful comments. :-)

Hi Ethel, Thanks for stopping by and sharing your story. LOL, I guess it is true what they say, Being nice and polite still can't fix the problem. Thanks again for stopping by.
