Persistence
Persistence

Fate or Accident?

There are many frustrations in life and they come whether we like it or not. Why? Because there are many things that are beyond our direct control. There are just things or events that come, sometimes without us even not knowing about it. Would we call that fate? Well, without one's doing or influence to make it happen, then I would consider it fate. Some term or call it accidental. Again, there is some synonymity for the words fate and accident. Things happen at the wrong time and the wrong place, and they also happen at the right time and the right place! It makes me wonder if anyone had taken count of things that were able to make it happen and those things that happened by accident or as fate may have it, good or bad.

Persistence

Persistence has a lot to do with many frustrations. Many people think that persistence alone will lead them to achieve what they want. Persistence will only work when favorable influencing factors are in place. Let's take for example the recent U.S. campaigns of Obama, McCain and Clinton. They all had the persistence to do what needs to be done! But, favorable influencing factors were on the side of Obama. Taking the pros and cons, Bush was a negative factor for McCain as Bill was to Hilary Clinton.

For that, McCain and Clinton had their frustrations on the Presidency and their persistence did not pay off! The negative factors on Obama might have been negligible compared to theirs.

In persistence, it is not a matter of all-out gung-ho! There must be a good perspective, if not a good total overview, of the situation. Maybe something like, "cross-the-bridge-when-you-get-there". Assessing and evaluating a situation with well equiped knowledge is essential. Engage only in persistence when you are well armed and equiped.

Facing the Odds

Knowing the odds against you is the best.  Not knowing it at all will be a gamble.  Facing odds with a ratio of 2:1 is good because there is a 50% chance of overcoming it.  Odds ratio will be good until, say 10:1, where you have a chance of 10%.  A chance of 5% overcoming odds will make things a lot more difficult and it becomes a gamble.  That's the reason why many people don't like gambling because the odds are stacked against them.  That's also why insurance companies are in the business because the odds are in their favor!  Lose some win more!

Factors

There are many factors surrounding an outcome. They are things that you might have and might not have. There are people who could help you, or, those who might go against you. Events that could affect the situation are unknown factors that just happen, most of the time without warning! And when it hits, sometimes it hits hardest but could either be favorable or unfavorable. Emotions are also a factor in situations where presistence leads to frustrations. An overly negative emotion toward a simple matter often leads to frustrations. There are a lot of impatient people who do not read instructions and go head-on what they think is right. In the end, they get frustrated not realizing that had they read instructions, things could have gone better.

If you intend to dive into a lake or river to cross it, make sure it's that river or lake you're diving into and not the Pacific or Atlantic ocean.

"Great hub with insight that focuses on psychological factors that are based on reality!"

For example, an ocean verses a lake or river will not have a quick bottom for you to dive into.

"Two thumbs up!"

Thanks ESAHS! Many people say they get frustrated about minor things when actually they just want short cuts. If they would only analyze they are frustrated at themselves because their persistence had the wrong approach.
