Full HD TV Information

High definition television has brought about the demise of analogue viewing. The pinnacle of this new revolution is the Full HD TV. Let’s set about defining what constitutes the Full High definition viewing.

You should be aware that HD Ready TVs do not necessarily meet the full HD viewing standard. Typically HD Ready TV sets meet the 720p or 1080i standard. The images produced by these sets though perfectly suitable for smaller TVs do not produce the best viewing experience especially when it comes to larger screen sizes.

For a true full HD setup you are going to require a 1080p capable television. The 1080p specification is capable of displaying resolutions of 1920 x 1080 using progressive scanning to produce the finest details and smoothest pictures.

Before buying a HD television, you should take some time and consider where it will be situated. The room size and viewing position are the all important points. It is recommended that the viewing distance for a TV should ideally be between 1.5 and 2.5 times the screen size. For a 42 inch TV this is approximately between 1.5 and 3 meters. Using this as a guide you may find that in a smaller room such as a bedroom a larger TV might not be your be too large resulting in an uncomfortable viewing experience.

The next consideration you have is depending what you will be using the TV for bare in mind then certain types of TVs may be better suited than others. To simplify this, you have three options to choose from, plasma, LCD and LED TVs. All have their own pros and cons which might make them better suited to your own situation.

Plasmas TVs have been considered to be towards the higher end of the market, they tend to be available in larger screen sizes and have superior colour and contrast capabilities than LCD equivalents. They are however more expensive to buy and own than LCDs.

LCD TVs are by far the more popular choice. They are available in a large range of sizes. Though initially not capable of producing as good natural colours and contrasts ratios as plasmas, they have over time closed the gap on plasmas. They are cheaper than plasmas.

LED TVs are new to the market. They are essentially still an LCD display with one difference, they use LEDs as a light source rather than fluorescent lights. The benefits this gives them includes better colours, better contrast control (producing brighter whites and darker blacks), slimmer designs and better energy consumption (due to the improved efficiency of LEDs). With them being relatively new they are slightly higher priced than standard LCDs.
