Games can really make a Christmas party fun and enjoyable. There are several simple games that will spice up your Christmas party and I've got six of them right here for you. Some of these Christmas party games require a little advance planning, but a few should be easy enough to pull off spontaneously. Just about every kitchen has a pair of oven mitts that can be used to open Christmas presents!

Most of the games involve prizes and small presents. You don't need to pick up expensive items. Some fun Christmas party favors would do the trick nicely. Hit the dollar store or Christmas decorations aisle at Walmart or Target to find some fun items that you can use for prizes.

Unwrap Your Gifts with Oven Mitts

When your guests come with wrapped presents to your party, give them each a pair of oven mitts (or have them bring a pair). During the gift exchange, tell everyone that they need to unwrap their presents while wearing the oven mitts. This is sure to garner a lot of laughter as people struggle to unwrap the tape as well as the wrapping paper and bows. The first person who successfully unwraps their gift wins a prize.

Forbidden Holiday Word Game

Give 10 chocolates to each guest. The rule is that if someone during the party catches a guest uttering words like Christmas, Presents or Santa, then the guest will have to surrender a chocolate to them.

The guest with the most chocolates becomes the winner. You should have a suitable prize on hand to reward them. How about more chocolate? *g*

What's in Santa's Stocking?

Put several things of different shapes and sizes inside a Christmas stocking. You can put anything ranging from star-shaped items to cones. Make sure the shapes you use are of varying sizes. Ask people to guess what objects are in the stocking. Obviously the person who can guess all of the items is the winner.

Blindfold Gift Wrapping

In this game, you need to blindfold all the guests and give them wrapping paper, tape and a present and ask them to wrap the present. See how many people are able to wrap the present while blindfolded. The one who is successful in wrapping the present completely becomes the winner of a prize.

This is one game where a little precaution is necessary on your part. You need to make sure that the wrapping paper is cut according to the size of the present as using scissors blindfolded could prove harmful.

Playing Cards and Presents

You'll need two decks of cards for this game, but you can probably discard most of the cards in each deck. Keep as many cards as you'll have guests at the party. Keep one deck for yourself and have the other one for the guests. Each deck should be a duplicate of the other.

You should have purchased presents at least half of the total number of guests. Let the guests pick and choose the cards. Then start reading the card suit and the number aloud. The guest who has the card with those matching numbers can pickup a present. When there are no more presents left, then they will have to take presents from each other. This is quite a fun game and I suggest you play it at least once.

The Ugliest Sweater

This is more of an icebreaker than a game, but it's useful if a lot of your guests don't know each other well. Ask your guests to come to your party wearing the ugliest sweater they have! Preferably, this should be a Christmas sweater.

Obviously, the one with the worst sweater wins a prize of your choice -- maybe something suitably ugly to go with it, such as ugly socks or an ugly Christmas tie.

If you have a Polaroid or digital camera it would be fun to take pictures of everyone in their sweaters and have a place to display them during the party.

I like the ugly sweater idea. I don't know if i'd have the guts to truly wear the ugliest sweater I could find, but I love the idea of it being an ice breaker.
