In a good physical fitness plan there are two main goals... Fun Exercise, Calories Burned.

Anyone who has ever tried to
lose weight knows that exercise from running on a treadmill to using
a rowing machine, to striding on the elliptical can be okay for a
while, but ends up being boring and tedious. So, its very important
for an exercise plan to be FUN!!

There are so many different activities someone can build into their workout. Anything from tennis to mixed martial arts, from walking/running with the dog to taking the stairs can be turned into a workout. In the building where I used to live, the gym was right across the hall. It worked out very well for me because I was able to time my workouts around televisions shows I was interested in. Then instead of spending an hour on the couch catching up on the sports news, I would spend that hour on the treadmill or the elliptical doing exactly what I would have been doing anyway. It worked out great at the time, and kept me moving forward on the two goals this article is about: fun exercise, calories burned.

And OF COURSE the real benefit for your exercise is the calories you
burned. Considering the number of calories burned during your
exercise is a valuable step in choosing what to do. In my mind, I
have always thought about it like this: If you are going to spend
the time exercising anyway, you might as well get the most out of it.
That's why the little things matter.
Keep up a good pace on the elliptical.
Don't hang on when walking on the treadmill.
Increase the incline on the machine to maximize your exercise calories burned.
Keep your breaks between exercises and intervals short enough so your heart rate stays up.
Maintain good posture, and keep your stomach/core tight and under control.
Incrementally increase your workout time as you are able.
The large totals for exercise calories burned come from a consistent or patterned effort over a substantial amount of time (at least 20 minutes, hopefully more). Then keep track of the calories you burn each day during the week, so at the end of the week you will have a total number for your efforts that week. Lastly, try to beat that total next week.
