Fun London gift shop near Covent garden for visitors with a sweet tooth
This sweet little shop near Covent Garden London is a must-visit. Candy- loving London visitors and olde-worlde sweetie shop fans will love the Cybercandy shop in London’s Covent Garden. We visited in May so our fun London shop review took place just before the main tourist season started. London was busy nonetheless and the candy shop had its fair share of business as a constant stream of candy-seeking visitors streamed in.
We discovered the shop after seeing a Sunday afternoon show at the Ambassador theatre – it’s just a minutes walk away. There was plenty of candy, both traditional and contemporary, to interest a family of tween and teen sons and their parents.
Our younger son headed straight for the shelf containing the Pez dispensers and sweet refills, as these can be hard to track down in the UK. Needless to say, he wanted one of the giant dispensers. We also stocked up on stacks of the little pastel-coloured brick-shaped tablet sweets in their stripy wrappers.
His older sibling, aged thirteen, chose an oriental theme! These rocket-shaped sweets which are available in China, came in lots of weird flavours, the packets made all the more intriguing by the oriental characters which made up the merchandising copy.
Also grabbing their attention were the packets of edible insects! These included wichity grubs and dried scorpions in tree sap! Not a very fun London purchase, we suggested. However, urged on by tales of how deliciously crunchy they were, we parents almost gave in and nearly tried one.
Other products to stretch the purse-strings included Astronaut Ice Cream (as recommended by NASA) – we chose strawberry and vanilla (chewy but tasty) and bygone sweets and products to cheer parents and grandparents. Applejacks cereals and Rice Crispies with tiny sugar alphabet letters were appealing, as were the Sherbet Dips and stripy humbugs.
Family Guy peppermints seemed popular and on the way out my son just had to buy a mini Dubble Bubble Gum Dispenser machine! Colour-changing gobstoppers the size of tennis balls were selling well, possibly due to the fact that they contained an extra surprise of bubble gum at the centre.
While they were busy browsing the sweetie shop goodies, we stocked up on some kids birthday party must-haves including flying saucer sweets, sherbet dips, shoelaces, musical lollipops, keyring and badge prizes and of course, gobstoppers!,
The Cybercandy shop near in Covent Garden is a fun London shopping stop for all tourists, not just families. Grandparents seem to love the nostalgia element and students go for the more wacky way-out stuff, such as branded or TV-branded merchandise from the US. It’s also a great as a last-minute stop for souvenir gifts to take home as the products are relatively small and therefore light to carry and inexpensive.
