Fun Things to Make With Mint or Band-Aid Tins
66Reuse your Tins!
- First, you need a tin or tins. The best place to find these are department or grocery stores. Altoid tins and band aid tins are just a few, shape and size aren't really important.
- Empty the tin. Eat the mints and relocate the band-aids. Whatever.
- Decorate it. Use mod podge or mix equal parts Elmers glue and water. decoupage magazine pictures onto the outside (avoid the lip of the tin, as this may interfer with its ability to close). Alternatively, paint it with craft paint or nail polish. Be creative.
- Decide what to do with it! Here are some ideas:
- Mini First Aid Kit- Put a couple of Band-Aids, a tiny tube of Neosporin, and some aspirin into it.
- Lip balm/Bug Repellent Container- This will only work with tins that have sliding lids. In an old pan, melt 2 parts beeswax, one part coconut oil, and a couple of drops of essential oils (For lip balm, vitamin e oil will moisturize. For a plumping balm, a couple of drops of clove oil or cinnamon oil will work, but be sparing! For bug repellent, the safest oils to use are eucalyptus, bergamot, lavender, and catnip). Pour this mixture into the tin and let it cool completely before using.
- Mini Manicure Kit- Put a mini emery board, a mini buffer, some small nail clippers, and a tiny bottle of clear nail polish in the tin.
- Sewing Kit- Manicure scissors, small spools of thread, needles, and buttons make this a pretty useful item to have.
- Earbud holder- If you're sick of wadding up your earbuds and stuffing them in your pocket, this works great. Just put your earbuds in! Now that wasn't much of a stretch of the imagination!
- Makeup touch-up kit-A cosmetic sponge, lipstick-style concealer, blotting papers, and chapstick are some basics, but do what sounds good to you!
- Cell phone case- Line the inside with fleece and you have a unique cell phone case. This works best with top-opening tins (like band-aid tins). To make it even handier, superglue a strip of sturdy fabric to the back of the tin, so you can strap it to your belt, purse, or backpack.
- Tiny gifts- Fill with odds and ends, like earrings, fine chocolates, and mini gel pens. These are great for roommates when you're short on cash.
- Wallet- Put your money in it. Ta-da!
- I'm sure you can think of other great things to make with tiny tins! Use your imagination; there is no limit to the creative things you can make.
