Fun Facts About Science
I have to admit Science was never one of my favourite subjects in school. I did like the periodic table. However, there is so much to be learned from this subject. Without science the world would not be able to advance and grow the way it has over the centuries. We would not be learning and building and trying to fight diseases and end suffering all over the world. In this piece we will delve into some fun facts about science and be less mathematical and concise.
Look at Science
Since the earth plays such a major role in science lets take a look at some facts:
- -the earth spins 1,000 mph
- -the universe contains 100 billion galaxies
- -it travels at 67,000 mph through space
- -in 1999, an iceberg the size of London broke free from the Antartic ice shelf

- -a 100 lightning bolts hit earth every second- it can heat to an astounishing 50,000 degress farenheit
The closest galaxy to our Milky Way is Andromeda. Travelling at the speed of light it would still take 2 million years to reach it. At present there are 100 billion galaxies that we can observe.According to researchers our galaxy is 13.7 billion years old.
Plants
- -a quarter of earths plants are threatened with extinction by 2010
Okay, lets look at the human body now. Have you ever wondered about DNA?
- -it was discovered in 1869 by Friedrich Mieschler

On the subject of humans we all love our beverages from hot to cold. The most consumed hot beverage being coffee. Whether we make it at home or go to our local coffee shop it is a very important part of our day to day lives. Here are some scientific fun facts about coffee:
- -it's chemical name is 1,3,7 trimethylxanthine-now that's a mouthful!
- -formula is C8H10N402
