So whether you are a smoker or not we all have to put up with smoking in our lives. It could be a partner or friend who smokes. It could be an employer or fellow worker. Then of course just being out in society we have to face people who smoke.  Let's face it people have been smoking for centuries and trying to wipe it out would be impossible. We all know that smoking is bad for you health and can cause damage to our bodies in the form of cancer and other ailments but the pull for nicotine is very strong amoung smokers. However, knowing this we will try to uncover some fun facts about smoking to perhaps give you something to think about:

• -it was brought to europe by columbus's sailors

• -smoking was banned in buckingham palace by the queen

• -cigarette smoke contains 4,800 chemicals -69 cause cancer

• -smoking causes up to 300,000 cases of bronchitis and pneumonia amoung infants

• -second hand smoke is a known carcinogen

• -a law was passed in NYC in 1908 banning women from smoking

• -once inhaled smoke reaches the brain faster then drugs 

The last fact is indeed interesting. That would explain why the addiction to smoking is so powerful. The smoke is actually faster then having drugs put into your body intravenously. That must be lightening quick!

• -it is estimated that a child with two smoking parents is more likely to smoke as an adult

•  -president Lyndon Johnson smoked at least 3 packs a day

It is particularly important for females to not smoke during pregnancy. Women who smoke during pregnancy are more likely to deliver underweight babies.

We know the effects of smoking on health. However, did you realize that people who smoke a pack a day lose two teeth every ten years. That is staggering. That would explain why so many smokers usually have poor teeth or teeth that have fallen out due to smoking.

Smoking also lessens your mortality rate. On average a person who smokes will die at least 6 and a half years earlier then someone who doesn't smoke. Why would you want to cut your life short?

This next fun fact may not be fun for all the women out there. This is one fact that everyone should be aware and some people already know. It will definitely hit women harder. All the cold cream and masks in the world can't help with this one.
