Flower Power

Hi!

This is a really easy little experiment for littlies.

Cut a couple of fresh white flowers with a stem of about 4 or 5 inches.

Geraniums work well.

Find a matching selection of small jars that will act as vases.

Fill one 'vase' with about a quarter of an inch of red food colouring (undiluted).

Fill the next jar with the same amount of green colouring, the next with blue - try yellow too!

Leave the flowers in a cool (i.e: out of the sun) spot for a few hours.

Watch the stems of the flowers suck up the food colouring and turn the flowers different colours. This has a huge wow factor with the kids.

If you have time to browse, the Australian CSIRO website has some cool experiments on it. Try www.csiro.au/resources/DIYScience.html .
