Funny Fish
67I was reading the news the other day and came across an article about a fish that will give you hallucinations if you eat it. Sarpa Salpa is a plankton eating bream that is a very popular dish in many Mediterranean restaurants. You need to eat the head or other unspecified body parts to hallucinate. It seems two men were hospitalized in 2006 after eating this bream. Hallucinations occur within minutes and can go on for several days.
For the sake of fun I did some research. It seems that other fish can have this effect also. Some mullet, goatfish, tangs, damsels and rabbitfish may cause hallucinations very like LSD. It is an actual poison that produces the effect and not all fish have eaten enough of the plankton to cause hallucinations. The hallucinations are not the only effect from these fish, you also experience nausea, diarrhea, muscle aches, weakness and burning sensations.
