Consequences of firing on Sri Lankan Cricket team in Pakistan
64- The prospects of cricket in Pakistan after winning T20 championship
In my previous article, I have shown concerns about the future of cricket in Pakistan after the incidence of firing on Sri Lanka team while touring Pakistan. However, the Pakistan Cricket Team has shown rays...
Today's most unfortunate incidence involving firing and grenade attack on Sri Lankan team will have far reaching effects on the future of cricket in Pakistan. Cricket is not only a game or sport but it has helped in the past to play a greater role than the politics. It has helped to improve the sour relations between two countries. It has removed several barriers between the people of countries who didn't want to see each other's face.
Pakistan's image in the eyes of people has already deteriorated and whatever little respect was there, todays incidences has wiped it completely. Sri Lanka team has agreed to play in Pakistan when other teams of cricketing world have refused to play in Pakistan considering the volatile conditions prevailing there. After todays incidence none of the cricket team of any country would dare to take risk of their player's life.
Question remains to be answered "Who did it?"
Taliban has denied that they have any role in this incidence. Whoelse may do it?
Doubts are beiong raised over terrorists acting in Pakistan. It appears logical also. Pakistan's Govt. has initiated some action against these terrorist organizations though it can not be termed a stern action. However, When you utilize someone for your advantage then an action, how soft it is, may trigger the things against you. They consider it betrayal. Similar thing has happend in Pakistan. Once they have utilized these fanatics for their benefits. Now if Pakistan Government wants to take control of situation, terrorist organizations are certain to retaliate.
To make situation worse, Pakistan's army and ISI had well wishers in their cadres who will find it difficult to tolerate any action against these terrorists. Civilain Govt. has daunting task of handling both terrorists as well as their well wishers. They are aware of the danger of retaliation by armed forces.
Whatever is the fate in store for Pakistan's civil govt. or its peace loving people, one thing is certain that cricket can never be used to remove the relations smooth between two warring countries as was done in the past.
This attack on the game of cricket is going to have the far reaching effect not only on cricket but also on survival of Pakistan who is fighting a war within and outside.

black day for pak sports
Well, Pakistan cricket can say goodbye to any tours, at least by teams from other than the sub-continent. Maybe Indian team will also desist from touring at least in the near future.
But the ways of the sub-continent cricket are strange. Considerations other than security of players are tremendous drivers.
Can't see, say, the Aussies or Brits going to Pakistan again in a hurry for a test match or two!
thanks london girl for views on unfortunate incidence. There are slim chances that Aussies or Brits will dare to visit Pakistan. Earlier things were different but now players have this incidence to cite as an excuse and concerned Cricket control boards have to think twice before forcing thm to tour Pakistan.
Lgali thanks and its really a black day for sports not only in Pakistan but other countries as well.
Your assessment is very correct but who'll dare to take responsibility if something unusual happens. However, people have very short memory and will forget after everything after few years.
The Aussies haven't been to Pakistan sicne 9/11, is that right?
Ban to pakisthan will also effect the india and Sreelanka .IPL and world Cup are comming....
Off course it great sack back for all over the world but sould not responssible of pakistan terrorisam is a global phenoma .
Terrorism is a global phenomenon, but, when someone is coming to your country, their security is your prime duty and we all have seen the glaring security lapses on the D-day. And yes, this may certainly play spoilsport for the IPL.
There's nothing more frustrating for a fan than to see something they have been waiting for a year get cancelled.
This is such a sad situation. A cricket proud nation such as Pakistan unable to play international cricket is really upsetting. A small number of idiots ruin it for the world of cricket. Such a shame. I don't remember the last time Pakistan played Australia anywhere in the world let alone in Pakistan. I don't even remember who plays for Pakistan. For a cricket lover like myself that is sooo sad. Pakistan loves cricket sooo much, yet now they can not compete against the rest of the world they way they should be able to.
It will be a long time until any country plays cricket in Pakistan. Lets hope the IPL goes ahead without any attacks.
