G Phone Released
T-Mobile announced the release of its much hyped Google Phone, T-Mobile G1. This phone, dubbed as the dream phone of Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, is based on the Google's mobile platform Android. This will be the first application of the Google's popular among the developers platform . The phone promises many innovations.
The Big G
Google's Giant Leap
The technical specifications of the T-Mobile G1 phone are impressive. Messenger, QWERTY keyboard, 3.2 megapixel camera and 3G support are all there. This T-Mobile kid also packs a trackball for navigation, a keyboard that slides out and easy access to Google's e-mail and mapping programs. But this phone is very critical release from the point of the search engine Mammoth Google. G Phone denotes the giant leap of Google from desktop to mobile. And who knows what Google has done with desktop and internet searches , it may do it again with mobile phones.
Apple's Dream
The IPhone Killer ?
This phone is quoted as IPhone eater by many and is targeted to have a lion's share of mobile business this Christmas. The phone will be available in the market by 22nd October 2008 and will be available at $179 with a two year contract. This indicates that Google Phone is directly competing with IPhone which retails at $199. There are many factors which work in favour of G phone. The single most significant factor is that Android which fuels the software of Google Phone, is based on open standards and thus anyone can put new features in the OS itself without paying the single penny to Google as license fee. In contrast, Apple IPhone is based on locked handset model which makes it closed to innovations other than from Apple itself.
What Google Is Aspiring
When seen from this point of view Google is poised to change the economics of software. Think about it, what do Google charges for its services. Not a single dime and still it is earning hell lot of money through advertising. Never in the history of software was this done. But this business model of Google has been very successful. What if Google brings that model to cellphone arena in a big way?
Android
Android Shines
This release is bound to intensify the Google's involvement into the field of mobile phones and also it may spell the start of new era of innovation in mobile platform. The most significant thing according to Google is that this phone works as a launch pad for the Google's Android platform.
The first Google Phone is Google's dream too and let us see how extravagant it is.
