What Kept Us Busy as Kids
KICK THE CAN
As kids it was very hard to keep yourselves entertained back then, we did have a few games to fall Back On ,one of those games were, kick the can, this is an exciting combination of hide and Seek, That we played, with a soda can, using about half a dozen kids or so.
One person would close their eyes and count to forty, then all the other kids would hide,and The person who counted has to guard the can ,while their searching for all the hidden kids, And trying to tag them , the funny part about this game is once a person has been caught,one Of their friends have to race, where the can is located, and kick it over.
Before, whom ever is guarding the can tags you, there could be lots of kids in holding, but As long as their is one person left still hiding ,you still had a chance to be freed, by that Last Kid kicking that can over ,this game was exciting,and good exercise for you as well.
We would sometimes play this game for 2 to 4 hours at a time, and had a blast playing it ,and When the game was over, we use to have this saying that still sticks in my head to this day, Some 33 years later, to call all your friends back in, that were still hiding we said (OLLY OLLY OXEN FREE) as laud as you could.
Which means come in the game is over, not sure why we used (OLLY ) , but never the less that was our saying, Usually, by then , it was Either time for Dinner or the street lights came on, and you had to Rush home before you got in Trouble.
For those of you ,that remember some of these games, we played as kids ,I am sure you Appreciate some of the good memories, back then ,when being a kid was fun ,and didn't have To worry like now a days, I Don't know if kids today ,are still playing some Of the games, that We played as kids ,but I Hope it continues, for generations to come. It was a Blast.
