Digital cameras continue to advance through the years. After every few months, new models are introduced into the market thereby increasing the choices for consumers.

The tech savvy people are naturally the ones who rejoice on this development because they can expect more advanced features in their favorite digital camera brands. Never mind the high introductory prices because for these folks, the more things they can do with their gadget, the more interesting life is.

Some digital camera manufacturers that have come up with new models are Olympus and General Imaging, a division of GE or General Electric. Their models are meant for the regular consumers and not necessarily for the professional photographers.

Olympus E-P2

The new model of Olympus is known as the E-P2, a Micro Four Thirds system digital camera. As the more advanced version of the famous P1, this model has an additional accessory port below the flash strobe. The port allows for the use of accessories such as an electronic viewfinder and an external microphone jack adapter.

Compared to its close competitor, this model of Olympus provides a higher resolution. Additionally, the color of the newest model has changed from its predecessor. From a silver/black and white/tan body, the P2 features a translucent black finish and black trim panels.

Other advanced features for this Olympus unit are its subject tracking capability not for only capturing still images but even for movie capture. Control for the shutter sped and aperture for movie capture purposes is also possible while additional picture mode and two art filters are available. Remote control for playback is another advantage and this is a first for the Olympus brand in support of the Consumer Electronics Control standard.

General Imaging

The digital camera division of GE has also introduced two new models – the J1050 and the J1250. Both are consumer-level and have an average $20 price difference. Depending on where you’re getting the digital camera, the J1250 is the more expensive unit at $150 mainly because it has a higher resolution of 12.2 megapixels. The J1050 is priced lower at approximately $130 as it only has a 10.1 megapixel resolution.

Both models share some great features such as the auto scene detection, blink, smile and face detection, image stabilization and red-eye removal.

This digital camera is so slim with a thickness measuring less than an inch. Other features of the two new GE models are an LCD measuring 2.7 inches and a 5X optical zoom lens. The LCD has also the auto adjust brightness capability to let you take photos clearly whether indoors or outdoors. And with its varied colors – red, black, pink and silver, this gadget suits both men and women.

In terms of price, you may be surprised to know that the GE digital cameras are very affordable compared to the other brands. In fact, they’re recommended for beginners in the field of photography.

For people looking for the latest and affordable digital camera with wonderful features, the Olympus and GE units are highly recommended. It’s time to make your choice now.
