A 19 Year Old Poem about Racism
62
In A Shoe box for nineteen years....
I wrote this poem when I was about 15, and it's been sitting in a shoe box ever since. I think it's pretty good. I hope everyone else enjoys it as well.
GOD MADE ALL LIVING THINGS by Robyninga
Why do people hate people that don't look the same as them?
And yet they love flowers
They hold flowers to their hearts, and wish they would never die
Yet, they wish people would die
Don't they understand?
God made all flowers
God made all people
There really is no difference between them
Humans are like the petals of a flower
Jesus is like the stem, keeping the petals connected to the root (God)
With the love God gave Him
Flowers are like humans, with the various shapes and colors
Each one uniquely made different, before the world began
So God could shape and mold us for his perfect plan
And yet people still don't understand
That all things were made by God, and with his breath they were brought to life
Try life sometime
I can guarantee it will be like a flower blooming in you, and in me

Still have, and unfortunetly won't be going away any time soon.
Thanks for the comment!!
Very deep and great writing for a 15 year old. And how true it is.
Tosha, I think you're my biggest/bestest fan! Thank You!
I have been thinking about racism since I was 5 years old when someone was first racist towards me. My theory is that hard-line, hate-filled racists, whoever they are, are clinically depressed. The poem is nice, but it won't make any difference to most of them, (but I am sure you already know that). Racism is their hobby, their religion, their obession, their raison d'etre, their definition. It is everything to them. The best thing the rest of us can do is get on with our lives, get on with each other, and teach people who have been hurt by racist words or deeds to pick themselves up and accept that some people are just resentful and hateful. Some people are just not like flowers at all.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and leaving me comment! I like to hear what everyone has to say!
Thank you for sharing this, Robyninga. Too bad this sat in a shoebox for so long. Perhaps if people would just express themselves like THIS when these thoughts occur, people would treat each other better (and think about flowers more lol). I'm not sure why this ended up in a shoebox for so long, but I'm glad it is out and expressed now.
Thanks! I appreciate this comment!
