Even the very best car alarms won't necessarily stop a determined auto thief who knows what her or she is doing. However, with the tracking functions and monitoring capabilities of a GPS car alarm system, even a stolen car can be quickly recovered. The loudest ringing car alarm might not stop a seasoned car thief from taking your car. The most effective engine cut off systems won't prevent your car from being towed away. GPS car alarms can protect your automotive investment even if the worst should happen, though, and this protection can greatly reduce your car insurance costs.

Many car alarms have the ability to track a stolen car. GPS car alarms extend the tracking range to be truly cross country. Since GPS systems can track vehicles on a national level, they offer greatly enhanced and valuable tracking technology. A regional tracking system, for example, will not be very helpful if your car is stolen in New York and then moved to California. However, if the vehicle is equipped with a GPS car alarm system, it will be possible to locate the car even from that distance.

Be sure that you know what you are getting with your GPS car alarm, though, as the type of theft notification included with the system can make a huge difference in your ability to recover a lost vehicle. Some GPS car alarm systems do not monitor the location of a vehicle until after the theft is reported, while others offer monitor at all times. Immediate notification make the difference in whether or not a car is effectively tracked since the owner might not be aware of the theft right away. For example, if your car is stolen from your driveway while you are out of town, it could be days or even weeks before the theft gets reported. If tracking doesn't start as soon as your car is stolen, the chances of getting it back are slim to none.

Additional Features

GPS car alarms offer many unique options and features in addition to theft deterrence and tracking. For example, many of the newer GPS systems feature remote starting the ingition or unlocking car doors when needed. Remember, though, that the technology employed by GPS car alarms requires a clear line of sight to the vehicle from the satellite. Heavily covered areas can block the GPS signal and impair tracking and remote operation capabilities.

GPS is perhaps best known for onboard vehicle navigation systems, and a GPS car alarm system can be equipped with this feature for an additional charge. Roadside assistance and telephone-based help are also possibilities for the driver who has a GPS alarm system. These monitoring features also serve to quickly notify the car owner and the proper authorities when an alarm has been activated. These systems can even be programmed to indicate which part of the car has been tampered with in the event of an attempted break-in. This which can be very helpful in sending the signals to the car that can stop a theft in process.

Even with the many great tracking and remote control options a GPS car alarm can offer, of course it is better to stop the car from being stolen in the first place than to have to track it down. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to revent theft attempts. For maximum security of your vehicle, GPS car alarms offer remarkable modern options for high quality automobile protection.
