automotive gps for navigation as well as recreational gps

What a wonderful world GPS is! From a very low start a few years back this technology has grown leaps and bounds to the point now where it is really ubiquitous. It's even got the stage where things are going wrong. For instance in Great Britain some signs have gone up imploring drivers not to follow their gps devce's directions down certain lanes - some are too narrow for their vehicles.

GPS has also been blamed for several train-into-car accidents on both sides of the Atlantic. But, putting aside the minority who seem to blindly follow their GPS directions wth no thought for common sense or safety, or the odd GPS error, these miraculous little devices are turning the world on its ear - there are just so many uses for GPS devices now. (Just for the record, it would be the navigation part of the system that might have erred, not the GPS part.)

My two favourites would have to be the GPS systems for blind people. Apparently they can hook up a small speaker from the device on the top of their body and it can alert them to a nearby ATM or coffee shop or bank - or any other Point of Interest they might need or enjoy. What a boon for blind people who just can't see those places are nearby. My other favourite is the GPS Travel Guide which in some cities in the world (Rome, for instance) you can rent one to wear as you visit the Vatican and it will give you a running commentary through headphones as you walk past the various points of interest. Magic indeed!

This is a really great hub! I also love the fact this is from a more European point of view. I had heard about gps navigation devices for cities, but not for blind people. I'm a gps enthusiast, too! If you get then time, check out my website at http://www.navigationautogpsblog.com . Keep up the great work!
