Oregon 400 great for navigation and for fitness
You want a GPS device. There are so many choices available you just cannot decide which one is best for you. Driving with GPS navigation is your greatest need, but it sure would be fun to have a GPS device that would help you navigate lakes, rivers and trails. Would you take advantage of geocaching and hiking if you had the right GPS device that would guide you on your way?
The Garmin Oregon 400 may be just what you have been looking for. This one GPS unit can act like 5 different devices - driving, hiking, boating, biking, and geocaching. The integrated SD card slot accepts Garmin MapSource memory cards that have different types of maps on them.
- One SD card has detailed maps of streets and provides turn-by-turn directions
- Another SD card has topographical maps that use 3D views to keep you aware of elevations. (400t)
- The BlueChart g2 Vision Map works on the water telling you the contours of the water’s depth contours, navids and of harbors. (400c)
- There is also maps to help you navigate lakes and rivers (400i)
- It is an electronic compass, a barometric altimeter (can help track changing weather patterns) as well as a temperature senor
- Favorite geocaching, photos, waypoints and trails can be exchanged with others wirelessly
- The Garmin Oregon is great for fitness buffs since it is compatible with Garmin heart-rate monitors and speed/cadence sensors
The Garmin Oregon 400 has a 3-inch Touchscreen with an easy to use on-screen menu. The entire unit is waterproof. The SD card slot is located under the cover near the batteries and the on-off button is the only button. Speaking of batteries the two AA (high-capacity) or (lithium-ion) lasts for up to 16 hours.
The Oregon 400 is designed to be a hand held unit and it is shaped (with a rounded back) to fit the palm of your hand comfortably.
If you need all of the bells and whistles of a Garmin designed for your automobile this Oregon 400 is probably not the GPS for you, but if you are the adventurous type then the Oregon 400 could be the perfect match.
