Going on long trips can sometimes be frustrating when you don't know exactly how to get there, having a GPS system with you can make the trip much less stressful.. When you are done reading this article, you will learn what to look for when you are considering getting a GPS system.

Display

The first thing you should be looking at is the size of the screen.  Some people enjoy the smalle screen. However, for most people it is not optimal because you will have to be looking at the screen really hard to see where you are suppose to go.  The optimal sized screens are usually between five to seven inches.

Maps

The next thing you need to be looking at is the systems map coverage.. If you are going to be traveling a lot, you should consider purchasing one that has map coverage of the whole world.  If not, just look for one that covers the whole united states.  Look for a GPS system that has a USB plug that will allow you to upload maps from your computer.

Directional

If you want to be able to keep your eye on the road and not worry about missing any turns or freeway switches then you should consider getting a system that actually talks to you. I am sure you know almost all systems talk to you, but some of the more expensive systems actually have what is called text to speech capability.. Basically, with the text to speech technology, you won't be hearing the typical "turn left in 1.2 miles".  The system will actually tell you what street to turn on. the extra money.

Design

Obviously, choosing a design that you enjoy is a personal thing.
