Car thieves are finding it more and more difficult to conduct their business with the dawn of the GPS vehicle tracking device.  It is actually a device that makes use of Global Positioning System in order to determine the exact location of a vehicle to which the device is attached to. You will also be able to record the vehicle’s position at regular intervals.

Actually, the GPS device is not only used for tracking vehicles alone but any other asset, animal or even person as long as they have the device on them.  Everywhere the thing goes, whether a car or a person, the tracking unit will store the location.

The location may also be transmitted to an internet connected computer or a central location database with the use of a radio, a satellite modem or a cellular phone embedded in the GPS unit.

Track Your Cars Movements

Let us just take a vehicle to be our example. Putting a GPS unit on it makes possible the location of said vehicle to be displayed on a map backdrop either in the actual time that you wanted to find it or when you want to analyze the tract at a later time with the use of customized software. This can be especially ideal if you run a fleet of vehicles that need to be coordinated for your business.

Problems With GPS Trackers

There are many advantages in the use of a GPS device. However, the issue of privacy raised concern over this since the information that may be collected from it can form a typical pattern of a person’s movement.  It may also be used for surveillance.  The United States limits only by the 4th Amendment of the US Constitution the use of these GPS devices.

Types Of GPS Tracking Devices

There are three basic types of GPS trackers, the data loggers, the data pushers and the data pullers.

GPS Data Loggers

The GPS data loggers will just log the device’s position during intervals and store them in its internal memory. These units may have an internal flash memory, a memory card slot or a USB port. This makes possible the downloading of the data in a computer for analysis.

Data Pusher Devices

The second type is the data pushers which are usually used for security purposes.  This device pushes or sends its position to a determined server at regular intervals for immediate analysis of the data.

GPS Data Pullers

The last type is the data puller which has the GPS vehicle tracking device on an always-on mode wherein the data it has may be queried as often as needed.  This type is not used as often as the other types.
