Wii
What is the Wii (We) this is the fifth home video game console release by the Japanese company Nintendo, which is based of the Nintendo DS hand held game system. The most distinguishing feature of the Wii is its wireless controller, called the Wii remote that can be used as a handheld pointing device and can detect acceleration and orientation in three dimensions. There is also the WiiConnect24, which enables it to receive messages and updates over the Internet while in standby mode can we say cool.
The Wii was officially release in the United States, Asia, Europe and South and North America on September 14th 2006.
The Wii was the hottest selling item last Christmas 2007 the electronic stores couldn’t keep the home gaming console on the shelves, out selling Microsoft’s the Xbox360, and the Sony PlayStation 3.
Did You Know?
The Wii was known as the code name Revolution until April 27th 2006. and the spelling of the Wii with the two lower case “i” characters is meant to resemble two people standing side by side. According to the company Wii sounds like 'we', which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. “Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.”
Sales
As of July 31, 2007,9 million unites sold worldwide, and 7.38 million units sold in the United States alone. However over 20.13 million units have being shipped to retailers, as of January 24, 2008.
Technical problems
The first firmware update via WiiConnect24 caused a very small portion of launch units to become completely unusable. This forced the user to either send their units to Nintendo for repairs (if they wished to retain their saved data) or exchange it for a free replacement.
Xbox 360
The Xbox 360 is the second video game console produced by Microsoft, and was developed in cooperation with IBM, ATI, and SiS. Its Xbox live service allows players to compete online and download content such as arcade games, game demos, trailers, TV shows, and movies. The Xbox 360 is the successor to the Xbox
The Xbox360 was officially unveiled on the MTV channel on May 12, 2005 with detailed launched and gaming information divulged later that month at the Electronic Entertainment expo (E3). It is the first console to provide a near simultaneous launch across the three major sales regions (Europe, Japan, and United States). The Gaming Console sold out completely at release (with the exception of Japan) and, as of January 3rd 2008, 17.7 million units have been sold to retailers worldwide. The Xbox 360 comes in three different versions, the “Arcade” console, the “Premium” console, and the “Elite” console, each having its own set of including accessories and features.
Did You Know?
During the development of the Xbox360 it was known as Xenon, Xbox2, Xbox FS, Xbox Next or NextBox, and the Xbox360 was conceived in early 2003. Before the Launch of the Xbox360, several alpha development kits were spotted using the Apple PowerMac G5 hardware. This was due to the system PowerPC 970 processor running the same PowerPC architecture that the Xbox 360 would eventually run under IBM’s Xenon Processor.
Sales
8.9 million as of July 31, 2007have being sold world wide, but 9.15 million units sold in the United States alone. However over 17.7 million units shipped to retails as of January 3rd 2008.
Technical Problems
The Xbox 360 can be subject to a number of technical problems. Since the console's release in 2005, the console's reliability gained a bad reputation from the general public and in the press through articles portraying its poor reliability and relatively high failure rates, also known as the 3 Red Lights although every Xbox 360 that is made after July 2007 has the new heat sink built in to reduce overheating. Microsoft has subsequently introduced design revisions and extended the 360's manufacturer's warranty to three years.
PlayStation 3
PlayStation3
The PlayStation 3, or PS3 commonly called is the third generation home video game console produced by Sony computer entertainment and Successor to the Playstation 2 as part of the Playstation Series. Competing with the Xbox360, and Wii as the next in the seventh generation video game systems. The main feature of the PlayStation 3 is its unified online gaming service, the Playstation Network. Other major features include its robust multimedia capabilities.
Playstation was released on the November 11th 2006 in Japan November 17th 2006 in North America and March 23 2007 in Europe and Oceania. Since the console has had several revisions made to its available Stock keeping Units (SKU) and has faced stiff competition from the other seventh generation consoles. AS of December 2007, the PS3 is in the third place for its generation.
Did You Know?
The system was initially planned to have two High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) ports, three Ethernet ports and six USB ports, though, as shown at E3 2006, this was later reduced to one HDMI port, one ethernet port and four USB ports, presumably to cut costs.Sony has also demonstrated the PSP playing back video content, including 1080p content from the PlayStation 3 hard-disk across an ad-hoc wireless network. This feature is referred to as Remote Play located under the browser icon on both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable. Remote play has since expanded to allow remote access to the PS3 via PSP from any wireless access point in the world.
Sales
3.7 million as of July 31st 2007 have being sold world wide, with 3.25 million units sold in the United States alone. However over 6.5 million units as of January 3rd 2008. As you can see Sony PS3 is lagging way behind Nintendo and Microsoft with game console sales.
Technical Problem
There is an outstanding 1080i problem on the PlayStation 3. This problem has not been fixed by today's 1.30 firmware update.
What has been fixed was the system has given a higher priority to 1080i signals so, if available, the console will default to 1080i over 720p. This means that if your HDTV supports 720p, and a game's native resolution (like Resistance: Fall of Man) is 720p, it should display fine in that resolution.
Other Problems include backward compatibility issues. The PlayStation 3's Backward Compatibility feature has also been a heavily-addressed feature, as the system does occasionally have glitches playing back a handful of the thousand games released for PS2 or PS1 that should work under ideal situations with PS3 gaming console.
