Concrete is standard in many garages. However it is easily stained, can crack, and isn't easy to clean. To solve these problems there are a lot of different flooring options for the garage.

There is probably nothing better than feeling that you have every single aspect of your house so organized that you can even have a beautiful garage floor. Most garages are disorganized messy places that are simply dirty. When your things are organized and you have nice garage floors it can have a huge impact on the time you actually do decide to spend in your garage.

Not only does garage floor treatment look good, but it is also a good protection to the garage concrete slab. Untreated garage floor can easily crack so it is wise to protect your concrete slab from this fate.

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a garage flooring option for your garage, but there is an answer for all your needs.

Garage Floor Paint

Latex paint is the least expensive of all the garage floor covering options. You will need to thoroughly clean the concrete and prepare it to be painted. Then choose a latex paint specifically for painting concrete. You have lots of color options, it offers some protection for your floor, and it is as simple as painting the floor. Once the project is complete you can drive on it after 72 hours of curing. It protects the floor from stains and helps keep your concrete from cracking. However, it can be damaged, needs to be repainted every few years, and can be very slippery when wet.

Garage Floor Coating Epoxy

Epoxy garage floor paint is the next option in order of low price. It is more durable and chemical resistant then latex paint. It is also available in a variety of colors. However, it can have bubbling, streaking, and can get a white or gray film on it when applying it. These problems require you to sand the floor and repaint that area. It takes 3 to 5 days to cure and needs to be repainted every 3 to 5 years. Polyurethane can be added to the top for a more resistant and longer lasting product, but at a cost.

Garage Floor Finishes

Concrete Stains are a beautiful option. They produce a warm natural variety of color hues and can be used to make the concrete look like leather or stone. They must be coated with an acrylic seal. While the acrylic seal makes it so that they are more resistant to damage, stains, and chemicals they can still be damaged. A common problem is that they scratch when furniture is moved over them or tools are dragged across them. The seal also needs to be waxed about once a year and redone every few years. While a beautiful option it isn't always the easiest option.

Garage Floor Mat

Garage floor mats are the least expensive non-paint option. They aren't permanent, can be used in a small section of the garage or placed throughout the entire floor, come in a variety of colors and textures, and are easy to lay down. You can place them where your car parks or use more then one to cover all of the floor. They are pretty easy to cut and can be butted up next to each other for a great wall to wall option. However they aren't always easy to cut around odd shapes or odd spaces including built in workbenches. They are also really hard to repair which can require that you remove the entire mat and replace it. While they are skid proof and resistant to stains and chemicals they aren't always easy to clean.

Garage Floor Tiles

There are also a wide variety of garage floor tile available. These are usually plastic snap together options that are easy to put down and come in a huge variety of colors and textures. You can also make them into patterns, letters, names, and designs of all sorts. This is one option that gives you the most control. They are easy to install no matter what shape your space is. They are also easy to fix and easy to clean! However, they are going to be your most expensive option as well.

When considering the best option for you it is a good idea to start with cost. Paints are the best low cost option, but have to be reapplied every few years making it an on going expense. In addition to their cost many have more maintenance issues then mats and tiles. Additionally most mats and tiles aren't permanent and can be taken with you when you move!
