GarageBand is one of those applications that every Mac user has on their machine, but relatively few people know how to use or what to use for.

GarageBand is probably the closest thing to an all purpose sound application that has ever shipped with new PCs. GarageBand is a recording and playback application. It is also a music application in nearly every sense of the word. GarageBand is a multi-track recording studio and a full-fledged multi-track scoring and MIDI playback application all combined into one.

To be sure, GarageBand requires a great deal of memory and CPU power, and it does have a bit of an angle to its learning curve, especially when working with multiple file formats, but the results are astounding, especially for popular activities like podcast development and simple Mac-based music recording and mixing. GarageBand can be upgraded through the use of add-ons called "JamPacks" and patches and improvements are provided often by Apple.
