Allium Sativum or garlic as it is commonly known has been around for thousands of years; it belongs to the same family as the onion and is classified as both a food and medicine. Since biblical times, people have known about its healing properties.

Some of Garlic's uses are believed to be as follows:

  • Contains the germicidal chemical Allicin which is similar to penicillin
  • Is one of the best anti fungal and antiviral herbs known
  • Has over 150 vitamins and minerals
  • contains some amino acid enzymes
  • Has selenium which is believed to help prevent cancer by enhancing the immune system
  • Lowers LDL Cholesterol with out harming HDL Cholesterol (Good Cholesterol)
  • Helps reduce blood pressure

In Summary, garlic has many uses too numerous for this one article. As mentioned before, this herb was used in biblical times; It was also used by the Egyptians, Romans and Chinese. During WWI the British government bought tons of garlic to protect the health of their service men from various battle field related infections; thus the lives of thousands were saved.

If you the reader have an interest in using garlic to boost your health, it is available in an odor free pill online, or at any health store or pharmacy. Since cooking the garlic cloves will destroy much of the before mentioned health benefits, the pill form is the best way to receive its benefits.

Cool hub. Garlic Rocks! I use it as much as possible when cooking. If you don't like the taste of it raw, try roasting a whole head of garlic in the oven and then spreading it on a toasted piece of bread or baguette. The roasting changes the flavor, makes it sweeter and it's so soft it spreads like butter.
