How to Improve Your Gas Mileage

Gas can eat away at your income, especially if you drive a larger vehicle like an SUV or truck back and forth to work every day. Even the gas you use to drive your car around can really put a dent in your budget. Gas prices are continuing to rise and that doesn't seem to be changing any time soon, so it is important to improve your gas mileage in as many ways as possible. Here are the best tips to help you improve gas mileage no matter what kind of vehicle you drive:

• Drive the speed limit! You may be tempted to put the petal to the metal to save gas, but in actuality, the vast majority of cars peak at gas economy between 30 and 60 miles per hour. Not only is observing the speed limit safer, but it is also cheaper. So, get in the right lane and save a few dollars every time you fill up.

• Inflate your tires. Poorly inflated tires are one of the most major causes of gas mileage loss, since most people never check their air pressure. Every car is a bit different, so check your user guide to see what air pressure is recommended for your make and model. In addition, inflating your tires to the proper pressure will be safer and help your tires last longer. Not only will you save up to ten cents per gallon, but you also won't have to replace those expensive tires as often.

• Service your car annually. Instead of just opting for the typical inspection, have your auto mechanic give the whole car the once-over. Maintenance problems can add dollars, not just cents, to every single gallon. One of the biggest culprits is the clogged air filter. Make sure that your car is running well all the time and you'll save at the pump.

• Commute to work. This may seem like a no-brainer, but many people don't do it. Commuting may be a bit of a hassle. You'll likely have to leave a bit earlier and when it is your turn to drive, you'll have to go out of your way to pick up others. However, even if you drive 10 miles out of the way on your 30-mile trip, if you commute with just one other person and switch off, you'll save yourself 100 miles over the course of two workweeks. That's some serious savings. And, the more people willing to commute in your car, the more money you'll save.

• Make car choices carefully. You may be in love with your Hummer, but there are other options that will get your where you need to go for less money. Check out all of the options, and don't worry; you don't have to give up on SUVs altogether. Look at hybrid options or consider an SUV or truck as your household's "secondary" vehicle, with some more efficient as your primary mode of transportation. The more you improve gas mileage, the more money you'll save and, as an added bonus, you won't be polluting the environment as much either.

Gas prices have reached record levels in the history of United States. You and I can't fight the world to lower the gas prices. But what you can do is find ways to increase your car's gas mileage even if the gas prices are high. You win by not losing money and spending that money to enjoy your life. I've spent a lot of time evaluating free resources, but they always seem to hide the full story from you. So you get no results. My favorite resource is Convert Your Car To Burn WATER--Boost Mileage by up to 60%. Although it does cost a little bit of money, it works. Stop losing money on gas. Invest that money in things you enjoy. Makes sense to you? Makes sense to me.

I've been using a simple program called Gas Dandy that records my average mpg, how much I have spent and it even reminds me when its time for an oil change. Their website is http://www.gasdandy.com

Try it out...

Although it won't increase your car's miles per gallon, simply choosing to live closer to work is another way of saving TONS of money on commuting expenses every year. (Like enough to buy a $100,000 more expensive house closer to work!)

Please read my article on the topic & let me know your thoughts:
