Gas Prices Rise to $4.00/gal. Summer Gas?
57I first heard about this story on a local radio station and then did further research online to find out if oil companies really stated that gas prices would rise to over $4.00 per gallon this summer. Why you may ask? Representatives from major oil companies stated that they need to start producing "summer gas" for our automobiles and that it is more expensive, thus the increase in gas prices.
That is very considerate of the oil companies to take such care in producing our fuel. Sure it may hurt our wallets, negatively impact the economy, and make it more difficult for us to support our families, but at least our cars won't have to run on winter gas anymore.
If we follow the oil companies logic that summer gas is more expensive than winter gas than wouldn't that mean gas prices should decrease during the winter months? When is the last time you have seen gas prices drop? To me this is a blatant marketing ploy to fatten the wallets of oil company executives and tighten the grip around hard working American's trying to make a living. We all realize that the price of gas does not only impact transportation, but the price of every day living necessities.
Groceries, sanitation product and clothing may all be more expensive due to the cost of transporting these good. What does this mean for the lower to middle class American's? If our government will not find a solution to this ever growing problem, we as citizens must do what we can to save money on fuel.
One solution that I and several of my co-workers have implemented is making some simple modifications to your vehicle which allows you to burn hydrogen (a by product of water) and gas in your fuel tank. As odd as this may sound the concept is very simple.
By using electro-magnates you are basically splitting the hydrogen (which can be used as fuel) from the H20. I know this may sound like a concept from a science fiction novel and I didn't believe it myself until a co-worker downloaded a guide on how to make this work.
Now I'm not going to make any outrageous claims of simply pouring water into your gas tank and taking off, but I did the research and this increased my vehicles gas mileage by about 15-20%. Any money I can save on gas and not put into the oil companies pockets is a success. This isn't just a battle to save money, it's the principle that we as American's will not be taken advantage of by the oil companies.

I did some research on why summer gas can be more expensive and found an explaination by AAA:
"The summer blend switchover. This transition from winter-blend to summer-blend fuel, a concoction that causes less smog, occurs every spring. It causes a dip in gasoline supplies as refineries in the U.S. shut down temporarily to retool their production facilities."
Basically they state because of the higher temperature of the summer months the octane content needs to be revised so that the fuel does not vaporize when temperature reach 100 degree plus in a gas tank. I understand why it is done, however, does it really warrant a .75 per gallon increase in a 3 month period? I know we all remember the price gauging that happened during Hurricane Katrina, and I do not see the oil companies stock declining, but rather increasing during a time a recession.
Wow, I was just jesting with my comment, but I suppose that it is a logical explanation for actually having to air condition the refineries. I would have to agree though, we are getting gouged because summer is vacation time, and gas is needed more for travel. Try buying gas at a "marina" on a lake, the prices are unbelieveable. The argument is however, if you choose to take a vacation you shouldn't look at the price tag. That stinks!
Hi - I really like your little hub here and it made me laugh. Well, the air-conditioning and similar explanations do look plausible but we've been having summers for as long as I can remember and the gas prices were never this high. Maybe it's Global Warming that is causing the gas prices to go up? Because the summers are getting hotter? That's it!:) :)

I think that "summer gas" is probably more expensive to produce because they have to incorporate the expense of the electricity needed to air-condition the refineries. What do you think?
