Tires are made from various materials and rubber compounds, whose properties evolve over time, depending on factors like weather, storage conditions, and conditions of use - like load, speed, tire pressure and maintenance. Thus, replacing tires cannot be based on calendar age alone.

In addition to checking air pressures, check your tires once a month for visible damage and excessive wear. Worn treads cannot channel water away properly and this can cause hydroplaning or skidding on wet roads.

Furthermore, one must be aware of changes like increased air loss, unusual noise or vibration - any of which may indicate that the tires need replacing.

Tyre Purchasing Tips

Check the following when replacing your tires

1. Tire Size

Your original equipment Tire size can be found in your owner's manual or on the Tire placard on the driver's door jamb, glove box lid, or inside the fuel hatch.

Please consult your technical for expert advice before changing your tires to a size other than your vehicle's original equipment, or when upgrading your wheels.

2. Type of Tire

Your new tires should meet your needs. Consider your typical driving conditions and the performance criteria you are looking for. For example, is wet road traction more important to you than quietness? Generally, tires with high cornering capabilities in the wet are noisier on dry roads due to the thread design. Also, softer compound tires that offer more grip will wear out faster.

3. Purchasing Two New Tires

If you need to purchase only two new tires, they should be installed on your vehicle's rear axle. New tires grip the road better. If the new tires are in front, the rear end of the vehicle will be more likely to lose grip, leading to over steer, which is difficult to control. Conversely, if the front end loses grip, the vehicle under steers, which is easier to control as lifting off the throttle will reduce the under steer
