Get Healthy Quick: Easy Tips
78Healthy, Quick, Easy!
In our forefather's days, a trip to the doctor, prescriptions, dire health warnings and obesity were rare. The people toiled in a physical world, ate three home cooked meals a day and seemed to enjoy pretty good health with few only a few having weight problems. They didn't belabor a personal health care regime, either. Their robustness came from normal living, it was just part of their daily routine. Our ancestors didn't have to 'get healthy quick' because they already were.
Today, it seems that we are, as a society, obsessed with health matters. While many are engaging in a lot of self-care through exercising, eating better and less stress, there are some simple things that we can do to help ourselves maintain as much good health as possible. For some people, the tips in this hub will fit smoothly and naturally into their day.
Before proceeding with the easy tips though, test your knowledge of natural ways to get healthy in a hurry. The answers and explanations follow the polls.

Easy Tips to Avoid Catching a Cold
Correct Answer to Poll Question: Go to a party.
It doesn't have to be a party, any socializing will do. When you're out having fun, laughing and sharing the evening with friends, your stress hormone levels fall. This clears the way for a dramatic increase of white blood cells, which will boost your immune system.
According to a study done at Wilkes University, relaxed socializing lowers cortisol (stress hormone) and can reduce your chances of contracting a cold or the flu by 76%. What better way to get healthy quick than by having fun?
Tip for Getting a Good Night's Sleep
Correct Answer to Poll Question: Popcorn
People have been drinking warm milk as a sleep aid for generations. Turns out that it may actually keep you awake if you drink it too close to bedtime. According to researchers at the Preventive Medical Centre of Marin, the protein found in milk can actually make you more alert and milk fats promote fitful sleeping because it slows down digestion.
Popcorn increases the brain's tryptophan and serotonin. Eat three cups of unbuttered popcorn a half an hour before bed to fall asleep 54% faster than usual.
Rev Up Your Energy
Correct Answer to Poll Question: Coffee
It's so tempting and easy to take a little cat nap when you're feeling tired. Turns out that having a cup of coffee is more effective in battling fatigue.
According to one French study, caffeine's affect on your brain does not change with age. Sleep however, is a different matter. It is most restorative before we reach adolesence. Adults do not get as much benefit from a power nap as kids do. Probably, any parent can verify that!
Only 20 Minutes a Day to Improve Your Memory
Correct Answer to Poll Question: Writing in a diary or journal
Want to stimulate both sides of your brain? Try writing! Researchers at the University of Texas have found that a mere twenty minutes of journaling every day helped to increase cognitive function. You'll become a better problem solver, experience more creativity, have improved memory and handle stress better.
Crosswords are fun and relaxing, but they only use the left side of the brain.
Prevent Cavities Naturally
Correct Answer to Poll Question: Tea with honey
Replacing your mouthwash with black tea is a good way to stop cavity-causing bacteria for up to two hours. It's easy to do, just swish with the tea for 30 seconds between meals. If you add dark honey to the tea, you'll get the added benefit of antibacterial action that lasts up to 48 hours.
Mouthwash on the other hand, has not proven to prevent cavities.
Burn Fat and Lose Weight Faster
Correct Answer to Poll Question: Hamburger
You've just had a physically demanding day. Now, your body needs 20 grams of protein and 50 grams of complex carbohydrates in order to build muscles and energy, as well as repair tissue damage. British researchers claim that a hamburger on a whole-grain bun will supply those things and more. A medium sized burger has nutrients that can also suppress the appetite for up to four hours.
Fruit on the other hand, provides sugars that your body will access for quick energy without bothering to go any further towards metabolizing fat. Drop fruit eating after strenuous physical exercise if you want to lose weight faster.

Hi, Trish. Ah yes, I have heard that if you drink too much coffee that it has the opposite effect. I should revamp that part of the hub and add, "According to research done by Trish, a steady supply of coffee will actually help you to fall asleep." Or maybe I should put that in the 'sleep' portion. :)
Re the daily writing, I'd love to hear if it works for you.
Thanks so much for coming by, Trish and the warm welcome. It's very nice to meet you.

You're welcome for the warm welcome. I love to meet new writers.
LOL, you'll be authority here!
It is something that I am well aware of - that people in general were much more healthy years ago and that today's lifestyles and the food and drink we get are making people really ill! As a matter of interest, I have a book in which the author Jose Jaen interviews a lot of the most elderly Canary Islanders - there are over a dozen who are over 100 - and all list hard work outside, basic foods and fruit and veg grown locally and avoiding a modern lifestyle as being why they say they have reached their age. They all use herbal remedies too and avoid alcohol and smoking.
Hi, Bard. I believe everything you said to be true. Nowadays, we expend a lot of money and energy going overboard to counteract a modern lifestyle. A couple of generations ago, basic living kept people healthier without fitness clubs and regimes, or depriving themselves.
I have not read Jose Jaen's book but it sounds extremely interesting, I would like to. I'll have to look into that.
Yes, I forgot to mention herbal remedies. I think back in the 80's and '90's people started getting back into that and a whole industry made a bunch of money from it. I don't know if that is still in vogue or not. In our ancestor's days, they used the plants that were growing on their farms or in the countryside rather than processed and packaged herbs and plants. I'm sure that probably makes a difference, though I can't back that up with any facts.
Thanks for so much for coming by and commenting. I appreciate it and enjoyed reading what you had to say. It was a great contribution!

Hey! I can attest to the hamburger trick. I kinda figured that one out on my own... When you want to lose weight, a hamburger (and only that) is my lunch of choice. I didn't know there was science behind it, though. It was just one of those incidences of your body telling you what works. Thanks!
Hey Lita, you are a smart cookie! I do think that if you eat intuitively that you probably can't go wrong. Your body knows what it needs.
Thanks for reading and commenting, Lita.
Very good hub, I like it! Have a great day. ~ Scott

Hi,
Ok, well, I drink coffee pretty much 24/7. I therefore think it does nothing to energize me anymore. I can fall asleep anywhere, anytime.
I like the idea of writing every day. I'll have to test that one out, as my memory isn't quite what it used to be.
These were interesting insights, some of which I've never heard before. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome to HubPages :)
