Working with PR companies for product reviews on your blog is a great way to gain exposure while forming a relationship with the brand you review for. Major brands and companies are turning to blogs as a way to implement word-of-mouth marketing at a less expensive rate than undertaking costly major ad campaigns. With millions of people reading and writing blogs, this is great news for a company or brand. However, getting your blog noticed among the millions of other blogs can be difficult. How do you make your blog stand out and attract the attention of major brands?

Content

First and foremost, before taking any further steps to work with PR companies (the people who you will work with that represent the brand) or the brands themselves, make sure your blog looks professional. Grammar, spelling, and the neat appearance of your blog will be the very first thing people notice. Put your best foot forward by making sure your blog sends the message that you care enough about the details.

Contact

You may have to make the initial contact with the brand you want to work with. The best way to go about this is to find contact information on the website of the brand or company and contact the person in charge of publicity. be advised that some major brands may or may not work directly with individuals, so be sure to read any special instruction on the website.  The brand may already have a program in place for bloggers who wish to help promote products.  If so, join these programs.

Communicate

When making contact or networking with a brand, you must clearly state your intentions and these intentions need to have a purpose that benefits the brand, not yourself. If you're looking to score an expensive item for free and that is your only mission, you most likely won't get very far with the person in charge of public relations. In your first email, state who you are and where to find your blog. Give details about your blog that matter to the brand. How many visitors does your site get a day? What can your blog do for the brand? How will you promote this product for the company?  Why do you want to work with this brand?  Follow up with any correspondance that is sent to you in a timely manner.

Connect

Finally, connecting with others in your blogging niche who successfully work with PR companies and brands is a must.  Do a search for relvent blogging forums in your niche.  There are forums for every type of blogger, from the mom blogger to the millionaire marketing blogger.  Join these forums and interract with the members.  Ask for leads and introductions to the individuals or PR companies that handle certain brands.  Network with people from your niche through Twitter and other social networking sites.  Don't be afraid to ask for help.

Expressing interest in the right way to the right people can make all of the difference in opening up your blog to potential relationships with companies and brands.
